well i am getting an 85 4-runner. it is unmolested(sp?) and the ONLY mod is the guy put the 4.7:1 gears in the t-case. what else should i do? PLEASE REMEMBER it will be a DAILY DRIVER. it has 31" at's on it. i do not want to da an engine swap or duals. maybe in 2 or 3 years. i was thinking 4" lift 33" mt's 4.88's line-x the inside. maybe an intake and exhust. it will be a daily driver so nothing to crazy for now it needs ok road manners. i need to keep the back seat for the kids and the back for the dogs. change the seats maybe i am not sure please give your input and let me know what you think

That said, there are a lot of options really. If it was up to me, I would go with some 63 chevies in the rear, with some RUF or 44044s in the front. For steering I would definitely get some high steer going on. Sliders, and at least a good rear bumper. A good winch bumper on the front if the budget permits. Gear wise, if you don't plan on going to 35s+ any time soon some 4.88s with an Aussie locker in the rear, keeping the front open. I prefer to keep the stock air box because I think it does a good job of keeping water and mud and crap out. Some headers and a muffler would open things up though. I dont know what your budget looks like for this thing but thats what I would do if I was to happen on a clean, stock 4runner and go with a more comfortable DD type 4runner.

GET IT!!!

Yeah, what he said. If it if for daily driving, leave it alone. Get some 32" m/t and a 2" lift shackle in the rear. I ran 33s with 4.10 gears for years with no problems. Get a Thorly header and 2 1/4" exhaust. Might be a good idea to get rock sliders even if your not out wheeling

Rocksurfer

I build all of my rigs to have good wheeling capabilities and still have good street manners. Sounds like you have a great start on a good dd/trail rig. Just keep all upgrades simple don't go wild or get carried away with all the chest fluffing upgrades some do that really don't help much. My best rig was a 4Runner that had simple upgrades, and my wife drove it as a dd. It sounds like in your 1st post that you are headed in the right direction to do this, I would stay that course. Since you already have the gears do things like a minimum lift of about 4 to 5 inches, 33 to 35 inch tires, selectable lockers and maybe while you get the lockers put on some 5.29's or 4.88's in there too. At that point you will be ready to tackle most any trail out there. When you build a rig like that you will be surprised on where it will get you, I usually wheel with those that have extreme rigs and so long as I avoid the optional hardcore lines that they take I've been fine. The really cool thing is then you drive it home while the others load theirs on the trailer.

so is running chevys in the rear and rears upfront a good way t work the lift?
