thanks dude, i appreciate the comments!  if you go to page 70 of my build and scroll down about halfway there are some good pics of the steering arm setup.   What i did was take the driver side arm and cut the front facing half of the arm off right at the knuckle bolts, then spun it around 180 degrees to see how it would fit.  The arm was rubbing on my tire when it was bolted on so i cut it off and welded it back together at an angle that would not rub on anything.  i made a gusset for it and warmed the whole thing up with a torch and welded the gusset in.  The cast steel actually welded really nice.  then the passenger side arm i left mounted the regular way, just cut off the rear half where the original tie rod connects.   Then i took both arms to work and put them in the mill to have the tapered tie rod hole drilled out to a 3/4" hole so a bolt would fit through for a heim joint.  then i fabbed my own upper arms out of 1/4" plate and installed a 3rd stud in each knuckle where the abs sensor was.  Its hard to explain step by step, if you look back before page 70 i think there are pics of when i welded the arms together and everything.  Hopefully this info helps!  So far things have been holding up just fine with no breakage and the price was right too! Basically free....  alot cheaper than the high steer knuckle setup from the company that offers it.  although it does look like they make a nice product

i fast read thru the build .. i have your photobucket album saved  as my favorite .. i saw how you did the lower arms but i could not make out what you did to the upper arms . now i fully understand it with the 3rd bolt . my next question was  how are they holding up , look like they re holding up fine from the pictures of the trail you re riding ..  i wanted the hi steer kit but not right now . thanks for clearing it up

They have been holding up great so far.  the only issue is the knuckle studs came loose once, but i did not have lock tite on them so thats probly why.  so far no breakage though

So now that i have my 4runner back in the garage i'm stoked to work on it again.  i worked on the cvage this weekend.  i replaced the vertical sections of the main hoop because i didnt like how big the gap was between the body and cage.  then i added on some more pieces to cage in the back seat area.  i put a couple verticals through the floor to the frame on each side to give it some more support and im also going to mount a cross tube right behind the seats to connect 4 point seatbelts to.  Ive decided that a hardtop of some kind will not ever be going back on. the plan right now is to just get a bikini top that will snap onto the cage and cover the rear seat section.   sorry for the crappy cell pics, i need a new camera Really Bad!

I'm totally envious of your setup bro, do you think 80's series axles would be doable with leafs?

yeah im pretty sure you could run leaves with them.  i think the guy that manufactures the high steer knuckles for the 80 series axles runs leaves on a first gen pickup with 80 seres front axle.   i dont see why the rear axle wouldnt work too

I am running Leafs with an fj80 front end currently. The only to run leafs with the rear axle is to use a fuel cell or a tacoma since there would be alot of interference between the gas tank and the drive shaft.

hopefully i can go wheel the crap out of it here within a month.  diff gears and a front locker are on the way.  I have the next 4 days off so i plan on tearing down both axles and getting them ready for the gear install.  I also still havnt even painted my front axle with thoughts in mind that i would be tearing it down for gears eventually. so i am going to clean it up and paint it this weekend too.
