well he was doing school loans anyways, so he just added on the funds to buy all my junk!  the new setup is going to be alot more trail worthy.  i'm going to leave the drive flanges on the front and run a full spool front and rear so I have alot less little parts to worry about breaking.  also planning on getting a marlin R-10 dual adaptor, that will be a really nice setup to run with the front high pinion

I'm sure this has been covered, so I apologize.

Are you running duals currently? What adapter and spline?

EDIT: It's in your sig  :hammer:

MC-07? 23 spline? For sale? I'm interested!

it will be for sale!  and no its not a marlin adaptor.  its a billet aluminum adaptor from inchworm and yes its 23 spline.  This is the one I have http://www.inchwormgear.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=21_89_92&products_id=28  never had a problem with it, doesnt leak, installed very nicely.  Ive only ran it for about six months.

The question of the past century of Toyota modification...

What are your plans for steering for the FJ80 front?

ha ha  I'm going to fab my own high steer arms somehow.  I will figure and design that when I get the axles.  It might be a few months until I have the axles in my garage.  They are about 450 miles away and the guy i'm buying them from is going to deliver them the next time he comes to south dakota (which will be february at the very latest).  I have access to a mill and lathe at work so I am hoping to actually make some steering arms out of a solid chunk of machine steel.  We will see how that goes!    Oh and are you still interested in the dual case adaptor even though its not a marlin?  I guarantee its just as good.

Personally, I wouldnt use the 80 front axle.  On mine I widened a fj-60 axle to match the rear.   If your wanting the high pinion the have a diamond made up and use a currie high 9 or stronger.  Ive seen several toy 8hps break and the 80 steering knuckles suck!

It is going forward.  As long as you never have to back up under load or pull someone back it's very tough.  I blew a cryoed Precision Gear 4.88 ring gear on the front of my 80 going forward even!  I will do the Diamond/High 9 in my 80 soon as I like to play with out worry of POP!  The rear 80 diff is a beast!  The only real weak link in the rear is the e-locker.  New parts are nearly unobtanium and if you put a twist on the long splined short side it is a mutha to get out!  I'm running a Detroit with short splined Poly axles in the 80 rear on my FJ-40.

yeah i know you dont like the 80 fronts, but I dont have access to an fj60 front.   the knuckles are a pain, but I will figure it out.  I would love to go diamond and high 9, but that requires alot more cash than what I have!  I'm trying to make some upgrades and not completely blow the budget ya know.

You also have to remember that you blew a front r+p in your cruiser which is at least 2000lbs heavier than my runner!  the axles im getting are non e-locker, so I wont have to worry about the rear splines. both the front and rear will be getting full spool.

Whats his name on Pirate was developing a new CNC knuckle wasn't he? to cure that problem
Yeah i think his name is billybob13.   Apparently he said the knuckles were supposed to be available like a year ago, but they are still not out.  I should check pirate for updates on that.
Dang I though the 80 was strong?
the birfs are bigger and its high pinion, thats the main benefit of the front.  The knuckles are weaker than mini truck because they dont have as many studs holding the steering arms on.

yeah I think the 60 front is 9.5, but the birfs are the same size as mini truck.  So ultimately if you could build a custom front axle using the 60 centersection with 80 series axles and birfs and the custom high steer knuckles that billybob13 is coming out with, that would be a sick axle.  But then you wouldnt have a high pinion front.  I really want the high pinion.  I guess you just cant have it all! ha ha

I've heard of guys rotating the 9.5 to HP position.  I don't know what they did to accommodate the oiling issue.  The 80 rear 9.5 is nearly identical to all the other Cruiser 9.5's with the exception of another oiling port in the housing and more webbing on the third.  My front widened 60 has a rear 80 chunk with an ARB carrier.   You might be surprised that what Brian can build you a Diamond housing for to exactly what your dreaming of.   Skip a mortgage payment.....I'm sure the bank wont mind.....

I didn't tell why my whale broke the front going forward either.  Guess I better come clean on that.......lets just say it involved quite a bit of unexpected air time and a landing on less than smooth road surface! The happy part was I totally ran away from the other Supercharged 80 that was behind me.  Bad part was I was not being a good trail leader! lol  Best part of the story, however, was I did the rest of the trail in mostly rear wheel drive including going around a group of J**ps that were struggling on a section.     There....now my conscience is clean (er).

I read somewhere that some cruisers had an 8.75 somethin or another, but thats not the case. and yes, I know ford makes an 8.8.

Skip a mortgage payment.....I'm sure the bank wont mind.....
how could you just rotate it to the hp position?  you would have to flip the whole axle over in order to do that, which would then make it a driver side drop.  Unless they re-configured the bolt pattern of the third so they could actually mount it upside down in the housing, but then it would be rotating the wrong way when you try to go forward! doesnt seem like it would be possible to me.

Maybe you should refrain from jumping Rice Cake in the future, ha ha

Wow, there's a shat ton of misinformation goin' on in the past couple days here  :gap:

FJ40 F&R, FJ60/62 F&R, FJ80 R are all 9.5" diffs. The 80 has the strongest of these, though. I can't remember why, but it's not a HUGE strength difference.

Minitruck front diff is LP 8". FJ80 front diff is HP 8".

If you flip a 9.5" diff to high pinion, I believe you'd need to mount your engine in the rear. Otherwise, you'll be going backwards with a front-mounted engine. It'll spin the axleshafts the wrong way.

If any of this is wrong, please correct. This is just all that I've gathered over the years. Thought I'd try to clear it up in one post  :disturbed:
