so i wanna get a gear reduction, i think im runnin 4.10's (i can barly make it past 50...goin down hill with wind pushin me from behind    ) so if i went 4.88's is that too low? i plan goin bigger later down the line...long down the line. or should i go like 4.59's? all around? but id like my front to pull harder, so would i go 4.70 in the front? thanks crawlers

first, take big step back and re-read EVERYTHING on the forum.

second, nothing you posted makes sense in regard to your problem or your thread title.

third, maybe you should let us know exactly what your truck is/what equipment you are running.

fourth, I am one post from being banned, so don't make me get CRASH-status over here.

fifth, once you have re-read the entire forum, you won't have to ask this.

Thank you for your cooperation and have a nice day.

ok let me simplify.....my truck goes slower than crap...and im only running 33's. 22r. what do i need to do

MiniSimp

Couple options:

1. Deal with it
2. Increase engine output
3. Spend $900 to re-gear the right way
4. Run 31's or 27's for some real speed

apparently there is a failure to communicate. WHAT YEAR TRUCK/WHAT ENGINE DO YOU HAVE. These are pretty necessary to give you correct info. I can ASSUME you have a 22RE powered EFI truck, but i don't really know, right? Given that assumption, you are undergeared and even with 4.88s to make your trucks power output match its' rolling resistance you might not ever be happy, so put a 3.4 in it.

yota_krawler

dude, 22r, 4.10s, and 33s is not slow, 4.10s and 38s is slow!... I had 4.10s and 33s for a short time and I thought my truck flew. Then I lifted it and put 38s under it with out re gearing it. That is effin slow. Maybe its more than just a regearing issue

84xcab

Quick and simple, 4.88s.

Edit: If your not exagerating about the 50 mph down hill thing you have a serious problem. The fastest i've gone in my 84 with 22r and 4.10s was with 33s
Bobbed 84 xtra cab, pickin up parts as I go.

If at first you do not succeed, put it in 4low and try again.

Yota-Freak

well maybe its lower than 4.10  :sad2: i havent personally looked. its an 86, 4in lift if that counts for anything

khmmm..HIGHER.
higher is numerically lower. lower is numerically higher. assuming stock manual 86, it is most likely 4.10s, you need 4.88s to compensate for the 33s but it will never run like it did on stocks.

Yota-Freak

well my bad, had the basic idea. didnt think this would be so controversial..sheesh..lol

We're just not used to this kind of question, that's all.
I would go with 5.29's since you'll be going there anyways.
As for speed, good luck, it only has 4 squirrells and #2 is drunk and #4 is dry.

Yota-Freak

haha well my truck would be up with you guys if i could afford it...even though u all seem cranky...lol. thanks alot. wanted to be sure. cuz ive seen my buddy chase run little 31's on his truck...and idk what setup he has...but he runs 42's normally and he topped out at like 35 5th gear...didnt want that happening to me..so i wanted to be sure. how fun would it be to get in my truck after all that work...and go really fast, then hit like 30 and have the rev limiter kick on

think of it like going to a parts store. you walk in and say

gimme a fuel pump for a 350:

im gonna throw you an m6624 (mechanical pump, 60s-80s)

you walk in and say:

I have a 99 1/2 ton chevy 350 and i need a fuel pump

it's gonna be a bit different.

i AM cranky. I deal with stupid assed questions 10 hours a day 5 days a week and simply providing the correct info or all of the info makes it easier to give YOU the correct info. Marlinused to be about good tech, not people asking if they needed a spacer to run a 31. yotatech is for that :pokinit:.

You need to help us help you.

If i said

hey guys I have a toyota and it runs great but only at idle what do i need?

what would you say?

yota_krawler

were not cranky you just need to specify a little better and do a little reading first, there is tons of people asking this very question

Duffil is funny. As is MiniSimp and DTB. I have had good laughs tonight from various threads. Thanks!

In regards to this thread... my truck ran well with 28s and 4.10s (stock setup). I now have 31s and 4.10s. It lost a lot of pep. I have been advised to put 5.29s in when I move up to 34s. I may lose some top speed but I will have enough torque to putt around town with. Plus i wont have to regear again when I go bigger (if I go bigger). Now with 31s I can run at 80-85 mph on the highway if its flat and no headwind. I have an 85 with a warmed over 22re. I really have no relevent info for this thread, I guess. I probably should not have posted this lol. Oh well.

Yota-Freak

well i got an ear full so its all good.

I'm not trying to be funny, or prove a point. I've been on this forum since 04 and I have learned a TON about proper toy setup.  it is all there if you SEARCH. Especially a guy wanting to know about tire size and power.

yes I do work at NAPA, I don't hide that fact. I don't think that just because of this I know more than someone, but I do think I know a little about toys. I don't look down on people needing help but please SEARCH before you post.

yota_krawler

thats were I learned the majority of what I know.

There is something called searching if not on marlin then on the web.

Ask google, he knows quite a bit. You might be surprised!

You may not be trying to be funny but I have been laughing all night from various threads here. I am still learning and know very little compared to most informed people on here, and I really have about 2750 more posts than I really should in reference to how much I actually know. I have learned to search the hard way... pretty much because I started a thread similar to this (but different subject, still a well covered subject though) a LONG time ago and I learned fast!
