they have kick panels you can buy, im not sure for that old a yota, but they fit 6.5s no cutting, basically replacing old kickpanel with a new one. q logic i think is who makes them.
When in doubt, skinny pedal!

This what I did to my 4Runner. I think the speakers I used are 5 1/4 or 6.5, I don't remember.

See page 2.

When I upgraded the stereo in my 4Runner I looked at installing something in the factory rear location and realized that mine wouldn't support any weight.  I opted to upgrade the front speakers with some quality 4 inch speakers and put two 6x9 speaker boxes behind the front seats on the floor and a 10 inch subwoofer in the back that is backed by 920 watts peak power.  It actually sounds much better than I anticipated and the subwoofer and rear speakers are easily removed when needed.

This is what i did with mine. It made the sound quality SOOO much better than just being in the back.

I also had 2 10 inch subs so it knocked pretty good but it soudned good for sure.

Its hard to tell but you can kinda see it

Yea those boxes would probably be the best bang for the buck, i just dont really want them rolling around, and block vision from the rear view, its my DD :driving:  i geuss i could stuff them behind the front seats, my rear seats are always down :gap:

It really doesnt blockj the rear view that much. You could also kjust move them closer to the side of the roll bar than what i have in the pics.

Just an idea

Get some muffler clamps, run them around the bar, and then use back-plates inside the box to secure them. Then just mount your speakers to the front of the box, and screw it all together. If your going to make the boxes yourself, use some 3/4" particle-board or MDF. You could then carpet it yourself with what-ever you choose (don't recommend shag though).

You could also make them "removable", and attach some extra speaker cord so that you could pull out the speakers and place them where you want. Did this several years ago, and it was really cool at parties to be able to hang the speakers where I wanted them.

There are several places that make "hangers" for heavy objects like flat screen TV's etc. that you could modify to hang the speaker boxes from.

for the doors you will have to get very thin speakers to clear the window or make/but spacers if you want to run a better speaker.
