I love it when the electoral college is explained as being a more fair way to vote than by popular vote... Uhhh... Unless you have a rogue electoral college they always vote with the people in that state.  I hear that the electoral college keeps the candidates from just going to the major populations centers and campaigning there and ignoring the lesser populated states.....   Funny but if you have more electoral votes that automatically means you have a higher population..   I never saw a candidate here in eastern WA as we have literally NO voice anywhere in the national govt....  We end up with dems or rino's in every national seat that get voted in by the west side...  Kinda makes me wonder why I vote every chance i get..

as much as i hate the epa , i am glad it exists. i dont think they are nazi's because we all need to do our part to conserve the land. i mean alot of laws suck but immagine if they didnt exist, we would have people dumping whatever wherever. the more i think about it though the more i realize that no matter what laws you have there are still dipsticks that throw their trash out in the ditch (like in my neighborhood). whats even more messed up is my neighborhood is %75 black but the people i saw dumping trash were white.... not that this is a racial discussion but on alot of other bbs it has been.

As far as companies polluting sure, there are some rogue ones out there but for the most part all those hoops they force companies to jump through do nothing but cost money for the most part...   They put a new bridge in my home town a few years ago.  The river is pretty nasty, it always has been..  But when they were pouring the footings they had a wall around them to keep the water out.  The water they pumped out had to go into a filter system, then a settling pond and be tested before they were allowed to put it back into the river.....  WTF was that all about...  They weren't doing anything that'd pollute the river so wtf was the problem?  The EPA mandated it so they had to do it which drove up the costs of the bridge to the tax payer... Typical govt bs.

I will again state my case for smaller government...there IS NO force for change greater than peer pressure from everyday people. I think the EPA is at the very least unconstitutional (unelected legislators) at the very best it has cost billions, if not trillions, of dollars to do things that could have and should have been taken care of at the State level...in court. There is nothing...nothing that the Federal government does more efficiently than the private sector, except that which is clearly mandated in the Constitution. The closer We the People are to the seat of power in government the better. The Federal government was set up so that the highest office a citizen could vote for was your representative in the House...because they are closest to us and have the most access. The founders wanted most of what is now bungled by the feds to handled in each state...even if they handled similar situations completely differently. 

Again, I suggest everyone read the 10th Amendment...it clearly shows the framer's intent for small government. Also I suggest reading the Federalist Papers. For some insight to how the Left works...read Rules for Radicals.

I found out a bit of interesting info the other day.    The Kennedy's were amongst the first Democrats to support Barack Obama and I have heard rumors that some of them may serve on his staff.    Well, everyone knows about Obama's associations with Bill Ayres, the self proclaimed marxist Anarchist that bombed the pentagon.  The interesting thing is is that Bill Ayres wrote a book several years ago and he deidicated it to Sirhan Sirhan.  For those of you who don't know who Sirhan Sirhan is he is the guy who assassinated Robert Kennedy back in the 60's

Its the other way around.  He's going to rush into stem cell research full force.  He's already talking about making a few Executive Orders, concerning both stem cell research and drilling for oil in both Utah and offshore.  My guess is that he's pushing the envelope right out of the gate to see how much he can get away with.  Its been common to use EOs to establish priorities and the stance of the next president's term.  I'm curious to see how far he goes with them.

True to a point. I believe the basic problem with the electoral college is that with the exception of 2 states (can't recall which ones right now), if the majority of the electoral college votes Dem, then the rest of the votes go Dem. Doesn't really follow the voice of the population. For example, in good ole Cali, we have 55 electoral college votes. If you look at the voting maps for the state, only a few vote dem, and the others vote Rep. Because the counties that vote Rep are very small, and don't have as many EC votes, the majority goes to the Dems, and as a state rule, the rest of the votes go with the majority. So if you can get 28 EC votes, you automatically get all 55.

I believe that it would be a better representation of the popular vote if the EC were able to vote according to the popular vote, and you could split the 55 votes into 30 Dem and 25 Rep. I think it would create a much more realistic view of the population and give people the sense that their vote actually counted for something. I get very discouraged when I vote for the president, knowing that I'm essentially wasting my time, 'cause the EC is going to go with the folks who live in the bigger cities. I also think it would force the candidates to "stump" a bit in the smaller areas.

Once again, you've hit the nail on the head. They are unelected, and are given the power to mandate law, which is unconstitutional. They also have the power to bring penalties to scofflaws. Its almost like a mini-govt within the govt. What is also unfortunate is that they are not held to the same scrutiny as "public officials", and can't be voted out.
