84 SLO build....UPDATED W/ PICS!!!

so I've been on the boards for a little while now and I've finally started doing work on my 1984 Toyota pick up xtra cab, besides just replacing tires with ones that will cover my truck in more mud!

when i got the truck it was all stock except for the cheap body stripe and the campershell and carpet kit. when i got it it was in perfect condition. the guy my parents bought it from used it to travel cross country and he babied it very well. at 16 years old i did not know how to drive a stick so my dad got to use it for about 3 months until i convinced my parents i could drive it. so i had my mom drive it to school and i followed her in her car and i tried to drive a manual by dumping the clutch and stabbing the gas!!! needless to say that day was the first day i used 4wd for my first hill climb and it was the first time i wrecked the truck...since then its had 2 motors, 6 head gaskets 3 heads and numerous exhaust changes. but now I'm out of the screwing around stages(i doubt it) and I'm starting to transform my high school mud runner into a rock crawler. here are some pics of my truck...

i removed the bubble campershell, and slapped on some 31s

after rubicon with front lift and stock rear springs with no tcase gears and blowing up a welded rear 3rd

front and rear lift, 4.88s, 38s, wheel spacers, and it sits 25.5" from ground to frame





next on my to-do list is "real" locker in the rear, smaller tires, dual cases with tcase gears, exo cage, chromos and longs

well i had 33s in between. the 38s are a buudies and he needed them out of storage so i told him i would throw them on my truck to poops and grins, and my truck is just not ready for that much meat!

well i hauled the ramp out to cuesta to play on and this is what i got...

not bad...but not what i want


backing up goes further then driving up


the front trimming worked out perfectly


every time i backed up the pass. side tire would slide pulling the driver tire off the ramp...i need a locker

worked on the rolling turd last night and got the old shock hoops off and the driver side done with shock installed. they are set up for 14s but i have 12s up front for now...

cut out inner fender and welded up hoops...

next is to do the front passenger and relocated some canisters and vacuum lines then I'm going to be tackling the rear with the same 14" hoops coming up through the bed...

I have a grill in Atascadero if you want it.  It has one broken headlinght door, but other than that it is alright.

nope i brought a open 410 and had to wheel/get drug out in front wheel drive...

That front flex with the stock steering is impressive!  Let us know how the rear shock mounts turn out.  I think going through the bed is the way to go.

after running some numbers im going to have to go to 16s to work with the shock mounts ive been planning...that or custom fab the hoops i got

yea except now i need a pitman arm...

so i got the front shocks in and done and no more front stoppies...started the rear, got one hoop cut down and the holes cut in the bed. pics coming later.

also picked up some 36x14.5 mickey thompson baja belted

I have all of the old stock parts to the steering system. I just put in my high steer about 3 months ago. It's all just sitting in my garage taking up space. You pay for the shipping and you can have it. I can post pics but I don't know how. Rob

Looks good man... Why did slot the 1.25? It should slip inside the 1.50. Were the hoops dom?

they woulnt fit in even with hammering on them...they slid right in after slotting them

so today a couple of buddies and i decided to test out my 36s and new front shocks.....

oh so for carnage...i tried to bend my front bumper back up and bent it WAY too fa up, broke a corner lens, pulled my front dl apart again, got a concusion, chipped 2 teeth and knocked one loose!

load it on what? its got stock gears, stock tcase, welded rear and 36s it is far from ready for the hammers!!! plus ive got $4 to my name right now unless someone buys my jetski and rims
