3rd gen 4 door extra cab build.
« on: Oct 08, 2008, 01:36:21 PM »
This is the coolest thing I´ve seen in a long time, makes me want to do this to my 4 door. Some dude is taking his 4door 3rd gen and adding the back of an extra cab behind the rear doors. He is building it with 44-46" tires and street legality in mind.

I came across this build in the albums on my clubs website.

All the info is in Icelandic so I´m just gonna post the pics and some info.

He started by extending his hood some 8 inches.

Making new wheelwells.

He was only going to lengthen the hood and put in a roll cage, but you know how these project don´t always turn out the way you planned.

Now he´s gaining 15.7".

This is the latest picture of the body.

Here´s the whole album:

Thats 23.7" that the Toy has gained length wise, he´s also planning on lowering the floor by 2.5".

i think it will look cool, and will be ok for a glacier truck that only goes straight and doesnt need to turn, but street driving would suck unless the wheelbase was shortened quite a bit, but then you lose bedspace if you bob the bed as well, it can be done to have the wheelwell i nthe right place and just extend the bed sections (basically rebuild the bed) but man, that seems like a lot of work

was its front end spliced and made longer as well? i would think it would be ok to do that to a inner apron, but the fener itself would then not be the correct size, and a splice there might look wierd....

very custom, wont have any regular body parts afterwards, but the doors and tailgate

Hehe, goes to show how very different the wheeling scene can be from country to country.

If I won the lottery I would probably get an extra cab bed and put it behind my 4door cab. Move the rear axle 19" back and move the front axle as far forward as I can, beef up the frame and put mog axles under it with airbag suspension. Throw in the 4.2L 24V inline 6 FJ80 diesel engine and dual trannys, add some extra fueltanks and an hydraulic winch. 46 or 47" tires and custom fenderflares. Insulate the bed and make sleeping arrangements in there and install a diesel heater and 220V inverter and extra batteries. I´d do alot more but I´m not gonna get my hopes up.

i think it would be pretty awesome to put a 4door cab on a 2 door frame and shorten the crap out of the bed, it would be pretty useless but i think itd be cool!!

:dunno: Not any more than driving a full size truck for length.  I'd wheel it!

That is off the hook!  I'd wheel that in a heartbeat..  What is the wheel base going to be at?  Or has that been discussed?
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

No word on the wheelbase yet. But since he´s building his front wheelwells with 44"-46" tires in mind then i´m guessing the wheelbase will be extended quite a few inches.

I´ll keep you guys updated on this. There hasn´t been any word from this guy in a while but I´m sure that this thing is in a garage somewhere waiting for a chassis.
