so i got bored today and made a speaker box for two jl audio 12w3's that ive been looking at on my floor for a year and never ran them. now im extra bored and decided to post it up here. normally i run a custom box for two jl 10's that let ppl still ride in my back seat but i figured if ive got these why not run them. heres how it looks now. the bottom piece is long to slip in under my pockets in the extended cab,the notch in the bottom is for the seatbelts to come out from to hold them in place.... remember... Safety First. this is how i left it tonight letting the calk dry

and yes its the right airspace. within .01^3 of perfection... driver displacement calculated in as well

did you just glue the pieces together or use brads or what?

double sided sticky tape homie... its right up your alley cause it works better than actually doing it right... you dont have to pre-drill and you never see those countersunk screws everyone hates to see after the carpet goes on... aaaaaaaaaand even an extra added bonus using tape makes it so it never Ever EVER leaks when the speakers hit... that stuff is soooo strong. i just cant see why ppl build things with screws and calking... just doesnt make sense when you can use cardboard and sticky tape and have it sound way better

I just make them out of left over interior fake wood paneling from remodeling the house. I can't figure out why they keep breaking in half or why they sound so buzzy when the bass hits though

Old shop towels are great for stuffing in behind the speakers can't believe I never thought of using double sided sticky tape and cardboard to make one. I could have saved so much money.

especially when they are greasy... they take all the vibrasions right out of the air and keep everything cool and lubed

as for the tape, yea i had to take a class at spacecraft to learn all this but something really interesting is that if you use REGULAR tape and just overlap it on itself making it kinda like double sided sticky tape you save even MORE money AAAAAND it leaks enough it makes a ported box! ive made some crazy systems before like that... i dont suggest doing it that way unless you really want to FEEL the bass you know?

thats the stuff right there... thats the off the hook look 70's trailer style were all aiming for! maybe ill tape some of that onto the outside of my cardboard when im done! if you dont mind me robbing your sweet idea

mounted it today... they smash in a toyota cab. fits in perfect and belts are at teh right angle around subs.

still need to take it back out and round out the corners and get some carpet on her. thinkin im gonna make some sort of a shelf like thing on it in the middle just need to figure out something cool or someway to make it look like its floating there cause the box is so generic and boring i need to spice it up a bit.

the old box is for the tens for when i have ppl or go wheeling in the taco.. lets ppl sit back there and use the box as an armrest. twelves are for when i feel like being loud... and they are def loud. i actually hate it how it takes up all the space in the tacoma but i didnt want to put them both behind one seat cause i like the sound to be even in the cab. the other reason its big is because its exchangeable with my 85 extended cab and no one can sit there so i dont care i just need sound when i drive that to the trails and on the way home to block out all the new noises

in all reality the vr690's have a ton of mids and are extremely loud so i dont really need subs all the time haha...

a calculator... if you have 10w3's then the drivers take up 0.050ft^3 so two would be 0.10ft^3 the correct airspace per sub is 1.125^3 assuming you have a d-4 so make a box that has a volume of 2.23^3 ft minus 0.10^3 so 2.13^3 ft is the volume your looking for.
