Mike,  i have Felpro gaskets  to install your head with,  do you want to order a headgasket from EngineBuilder??   or i can install the felpro, it IS a blue gasket

OK what is the differant in the two gaskets? Besides don't you need the Cam first?

yea  cam would be good  so when i torque the headbolts  i dont have to disturb them when it gets here

i'll be picking up some antisieze  for the intake today,  and get those two exhaust stud holes fixed(re threaded or a timesert)

Ok I'll get the cam ordered and shipped by next weekend. I get payed on Wed, and can order any time after that.

Which way are you going with the stud holes, can you rethread or do you need the kit?  I looked at the web site but just got a list of "ford" sparkplug kist ??? . You may have to point out the right kit for me, and how about the headers? Any brand better then the next? I don't Smog compatable headers on the 88 right? I could start look on Summit's webpage for them I guess.

79coyotefrg

i think summit only offers pacesetter, and they suck

i would say doug thorley or LCEngineering

i'll check around here in town for the timeserts

well about a week ago, (ok maybe longer)  the UPS man brought a nice little box with LCEngineering on it,  it was Mikes .440 lift EFI Pro cam

below is a Rock head gasket (bottom) and a Felpro gasket (top)

this particular Rock gasket came in the kit with wookies engine but since i don't have his head yet, i'll pick up another rock gasket when i have his head hot tanked

so  here i go a little rtv in the corners and down it went

i went to grab the rocker assembly and it was NASTY

The rock head gasket looks alot better then the felpro...The felpro looks like it's made of just paper.

So I guess I am buying wookie a gasket.. :disturbed:.As for the NASTY...Is that a good nasty or bad?  :headscratch:

79coyotefrg

bad nasty,  if  someone had installed it  the cam would have died a horrible death

the one leaning against the pole is the one that came with the 4runner,  the one on the table is one that i had in a chest for about 3 years

i started to use mine but 2 of the adjusters were bad  and i was curious as to how bad the other rocker assembly was,   so  i pulled it all apart, cleaned it ALOT,  4 cans of carb cleaner, a 30 caliber rifle brush and rags soaked in new Castrol oil later it was looking mucho better

the oil holes in both rails were stopped up, i removed the rockers and towers from the rails,  used a rifle brush inside the rails then a tiny flat screw driver to clean the slots in the bottom edge.

it cleaned up really nice,

i got it all back together and oiled nicely,   i had to use a hammer to beat it apart but  when i was done it slide back together like a glove

sorry  batteries were dead by that point

There in lays the problem...We don't know how long the motor's been sitting, or what parts were bad at the start, and which have gone bad sitting around waiting to be put back together... :dunno:

As for the batteries... I  don't think it's ready to crank, so you must be tired from working so hard..

You take the egr loose 1st.
egr is off the head and on the ground,  those cooling tubes that go behind the block are keeping me from lining it up :wall:

It will go on you just need to hold your mouth just right. Have you taken the cooling tubes loose from the back of the head, and , or where ever else their mounted in order to get more room?

you could always pull the stud off by double nuting it and relocate it

:nope: it's oil and sand.. :yikes:

Got no idea how it got there but it got something to do why the motor was getting rebuilt.. :dunno:.

We got  the whole exhaust is on and the intake is cleaned up, but we're going to have to use another throttle body because we can't clean the sand and oil out of it.
If we had put the intake side on the motor, it would have been had to be rebuilt with in months.  You would think a mechanic would know better then to leave that crap in there.. :maddest:

Guess it like they taught me in driving school...."Never trust a mechanic, double check their work, and never trust a mechanic". :-\
