my girlfriend, son and i are going on a spur of the moment road trip to northern California to do some fishing and site seeing and i am wondering where would be some good places to stop and fish/site see? we are leaving tonight at around 6 an i am just going to hit the 5 and  :driving: till i get to tired then go from there. we plan on heading home Monday night from where ever we end up. we will be in either my girlfriends SUV or a rent a car so no wheeling trips this time. so any ,local hot spots that my son and girlfriend can catch some fish would be greatly appreciated! :yesnod:

i know a place its called mount lassen i go there every year. its about 45 min. outside of redding and its hella easy to get to. theres hat creek which has some great fishing, and mount lassen is a national park that has places to camp, a whole bunch of lakes, and you can hike to the top of lassen. in fact its an a volcano. its awsome up there i never want to leave when i visit.

hope this helps

i will be taking the 36 out of red bluff to get to lassen so im afraid i will have to hit hat creek another time.  is there a particular lake i should fish in lassen? im looking at fishing helen and emerald lakes. then im going to head down to hell hole, and after that make my way to hume lake, then home...for a grand total of 12oo miles and just shy of 24 hours of driving!!!

if anyone has fished these lakes recently please let m know how they are going

How far are you going? Lassen is HECKa far!  How bout Clear Lake? It's not real beautiful up there, but the fishing is great! If you wanna see beautiful, I'd say head up the Hwy 70 Canyon, but since the fire I'm not sure how much has burned up there.

Sonoma area.. Hit up the redwoods out by the coast, hit the beach, fish the Russian River (you can even rent canoes to ride down the river).  That's one of the most beautiful places in the state

Just a few ideas!

Little Grass Valley is a good spot to hit  up some fishing for the fam.

Head up Marysville Road, it'll turn into La Porte Road and just keep following it up until you come across the spillway.

Pretty easy, great scenery

how far north are you planning on going is the biggest question.

My thoughts as well.  Hat creek will be a cluster flopp this weekend and you couldn't pay me to go right now.  Lassen will also *probably* be nut to butt, but if you're planning on going then you may as well go.  It'll be hot up in this area tomorrow but is supposed to cool off substantially sunday.  Be prepared for temps in the 40s over the weekend if you're at elevation!  My parents live in weaverville and I saw it was supposed to get down to 50 overnight, and it's only like 2000 foot elevation.

Good thing you're not heading to shasta lake, cause it's about 135 feet down right now and looks like complete ass.  It's hard to get mad at customers right now if they don't know where they are when calling in for a chase call, cause the lake looks way different and it's easy to get disoriented right now.  Trinity lake is way down now too, though not as low.  Trinity river has a good bit of salmon and steelhead in it right now and they're spread out pretty good, so your chances are decent almost anywhere you could easily get to.  I've even seen salmon all the way up to lewiston, though they weren't pretty  :ack:

Good luck in Lassen.  I've only ridden the motorbike through there (thank goodness it's fuel injected!) and never fished, but all the water I could see had me lickin my lips!  I need to go fishing up there some day!
