I was thinkin about goin to wyotech for college. has anyone been or know anything good about it? is it a good school? basically any info thats not on there website would be good

its sucks balls. my rep for UTI worked for wyotech and wyotech lacks everything. to make it simple UTI is pritty much tied in with every major car company and wyotech isnt. i wanted to go to wyotech until i found out how much better UTI is.

so its bascially the same as wyotech its just tied into all the major car companies? does that mean you will specialize in some companies and not others? and what do you mean by wyotech lacks everything?

also one in AZ and a few in CA and theres a few other campuses elsewhere. my brother attended UTI and when we went on the tour somebody else had taken a wyotech tour and couldnt believe how muc hnicer UTI was...like yotacrawler said, UTI has a program with almost all of the major car manufacturers that you can take after you graduate form UTi and then specialize in that brand and go to work for that brand.

The school is only going to be as good of a student that you are.(Does that make sense?) If you can understand what they are teaching & have good hands on, then you can work on anything. Do research on both tech schools & weight out the pro's & con's.

A rep will tell you what ever school they rep that it is better then the next, that's how they make their money. If he told you that any other school was better he would be out of a job in no time.

2 of my coworkers have gone to uti.  1 is a good mechanic and said it was nearly worthless to him.  The other is an utter bonehead mechanic and said he went all the way through and passed.  If he's telling the truth I have no respect for the school, cause this guy's nearly worthless.

my sis's bf went to sequoia institute in fremont, he knows what he is doing with cars..... sequoia was bought by wyotech

i have known two people to graduate from wyotech and the most they do know is change oil and do alignments. Fro when they left to when they came back there was not much learned. At the fab shop i work at we hired a new kid who went to wyotech, he did not even know how to change the bottles out for the welders because only the instructors were allowed to.

Its a crap mechanic puppy mill. Ian from extreme 4x4 worked as a teacher before this job and has insane knowledge and is the really tech know how guy. Jessie who had no prior ex. went to wyotech and IMO she is a bone head and is only the show for only one reason....

wyotech turns out a lot of UTI students. they go to wyotech then figure out that they don't get any credentials at wyotech. so they join UTI.  UTI is one the easiest after high school to get into. all you need is a HS diploma and take a really easy basic logic test. it's basicly an IQ test. I am currently enrolled in UTI classes and all i have really learned is how to R&R (remove and replace) stuff. i've been there since january and it's really really easy. just listen to the lectures and take tests. of course all classes have some lab time. they try to make it 50/50. but some classes are 30 class : 70 lab like under-car suspension and others are nearly 100% class like the electrical and service writing. don't get me wrong. i have learned a lot of new information but it has mostly been from lectures, brakes, under-car and manual trans(automotive and diesel).  another thing to consider is how much these schools cost. i am on a schedule of auto, diesel & Ford FACT (Ford Advanced Credentials Training). and i am paying slightly over $40,000.

I know 2 people that went there too. One graduated & the other had to drop out. Both are excellent mechanics.

With the help of a manual, hands on is the only way to learn.

If I had to pay $40,000 for school you better believe that I'm going to have my hands on everything & learning as much as I can. This goes back to my first post, it's all about the kind of student you are willing to be.

What are the requirements?

For UTI i had to prove that i had a HS diploma, equivalency degree or G.E.D. then you go there for a tour. then once your completely sure you want to go there you reserve a seat with $100. next is a simple basic logic test. it's an IQ test. and there are, what i believe, complete retards at the school. my younger brother is retarded and he is smarter than some of these kids i go to school with. so it is so easy to get in.

Nope, talking to people who've gone there has given me no idea how hard it is to get in    I said the guy is a bonehead for one reason; because he is!  I don't know what you are looking to gain by supporting him, but of the maybe 35-40 different mechanics I've worked with over the last several years he was easily within the 5 worst.  Sorry, it's the truth!  I'm not a good mechanic, but what makes me as good as I am is remembering stuff.  I had to tell that guy the same damn things constantly, sometimes repeating myself several times a week on how to do the simplest tasks.  He didn't belong and is now gone because of it, and we don't have high standards either 

The guy who coasted through did have a good base knowledge before going, and while he admitted he did pick up some good info there he also admitted it wasn't really worth it, save for the matco box and tools.

My boss went to MMI and said about the same thing too, and much the same he had a good base mechanical knowledge as well.

My memory is shorter than my thingy so schools are useless to me.  Hell, it's nearly useless for me to do the computer schooling because I forget all the info before I get to the tests between each section!  The only thing that even gets me through it is taking notes.

i noe what ur talking about one of my managers at work is a complete retard. he doesnt retain any info anybody gives him. im taking the collision repair and refinishing class at UTI.

Along the lines of how good a student you are and how well you remember things. That, is what will make the worth or cost of the school worth it in the end. After all, you'll only be there a few months compared to the next 40 yrs on the job. So how much will you need to learn and know while you're there? It's just a starting point when you look at the big picture.

Consider this, when I went to WTI nearly twenty years ago  ....(when they had one campus in Laramie,WY...it was a much better school in those days) the stuff we learned about that was fresh and new then almost is non existent now. So, what expectations do you really have when it comes to the school you choose? Remember, they can't teach you everything and they can't follow you around to help you and they can't make you into a good tech...that's your duty.  You have to just do this stuff and build your skills and continue to learn after all the schooling or it just fades like a memory.

Hope you decide on what will work for you.

I graduated from Wyotech in 07 in SAC, I think it was a great school. It is what you make of it and Some people I saw there did not need to be, they wasted their money and time. I learned a lot from the reading and all the hands on, I passed every class the first time and even took additional classes. It does not take a very smart person to get in the either of the schools.  I did see students from UTI drive to Wyotech to enroll because they said UTI Sucks    Also most of the fired teachers from Wyotech went to UTI to teach    So I think it comes down to who you are and how you can take in Information.    The Price is $$$, Thats what Scholarships are for    If you are serious enough, go there, take a tour and talk to the students at the campus. If you like it and decide to enroll, then be serious and take advantage of the opportunity  and get a good job before you graduate.
