Nice First Aid Kits For Sale - Interested?
« on: Aug 16, 2008, 03:48:15 PM »
As we all know having a good first aid kit can be invaluable on the trail.
With no sanitary water, or anything to clean a wound, its easy to come home after a weekend of wheeling, only to find that little cut you got is not badly infected. Theres also always the chance of someone getting a little too intoxicated and seriously injuring themselves or someone else.

So I recently bought a first aid kit to stay in my rig for on the trail.
I bought it cause its one of the few that ive seen that are decent sized,
with stuff you would actually need/use, all for under the $80-100 I've seen some similar kits go for.

So my poll/question, is would any of you be interested in buying one of the first aid kits for $40 + shipping? (or pickup/delivery if your local)
If so, or if not, gimme some input on what you guys want or need, and maybe i can make a custom one or something.

Ive also been looking into Military grade MRE's (Meals Ready to Eat) which are self contained, durable, have a 3-5 year shelf life, are high in vitamins and nutrients, and could be used either for survival if you say got stranded in the snow, or for when your too lazy to pack all the food and cooking supplies on your next wheeling trip.

(I will get pics of all of this up soon!!!)[/]

The First Aid/Emergency Ready kit Includes:

Antiseptics/Medication

  • 5 Triple antibiotic ointment packs
  • 4 First aid cream packs
  • 10 Ibuprofen tables in 2 tablet packs
  • 10 Extra strength non aspirin tablets in 2 tablet packs
  • 2 Aspirin tablets 81mg.
  • 6 Castile soap towelettes
  • 3 Insect sting relief pads
  • 22 Alcohol cleansing pads
  • 15 Antiseptic Cleansing Wipes
  • 1 Blistex Lip Ointment
  • 1 SunX Sunscreen lotion pouch SPF 30
  • 4 Hand sanitizer packs
  • 2 Germicidal Wipes

Bandages

  • 20 Nexcare Comfort Bandages 3/4" x 3"
  • 14 Nexcare Comfort Bandages 7/8" x 2-1/4"
  • 16 Nexcare Comfort Bandages 1-1/8" x 3"
  • 30 Nexcare Mini Comfort Bandages 7/8" x 1-1/8"
  • 2 Nexcare knee and elbow bandages 2"x4"
  • 4 Nexcare better butterfly closure bandages

Injury Treatment

  • 1 Instant cold compress
  • 1 Reusable Hot/cold compress
  • 1 Triangular sling
  • 1 Conforming Gauze roll bandage 3"
  • 1 Conforming Gauze roll bandage 2"
  • 2 Trauma pads 5x9"
  • 6 Gauze dressing pads 3x3"
  • 10 Gauze dressing pads 2x2"
  • 2 Sterile eye ads
  • 2 Non-stick pads 2x3"

Utilities

  • 1 First Aid Guide
  • 5 How to use cards
  • 4 Latex-free exam quality gloves
  • 4 Thermometers, one time use
  • 4 Moleskin squares (blister prevention) 2x2"
  • 1 First aid tape roll 1/2"x10yards
  • 1 Tweezers, stainless steel
  • 1 scissors
  • 2 Finger splints
  • 10 cotton tipped applicators
  • 2  Safety Pins
  • 1 Emergency Poncho
  • 1 Emergency Blanket
  • 2 Hand warmers
  • 1 Emergency drinking water pouch
  • 1 Light stick
  • 1 Whistle with neck cord
  • 3 Face Masks
  • 1 "CALL 911" flag

Lemme know what you guys think,
Im really leaning towards customizing the kits since they are missing a few useful things.
Any and all input is appreciated!

Dude i would take 3

20 Nexcare Comfort Bandages 3/4" x 3"
14 Nexcare Comfort Bandages 7/8" x 2-1/4"
16 Nexcare Comfort Bandages 1-1/8" x 3"
30 Nexcare Mini Comfort Bandages 7/8" x 1-1/8"

how about specific bandages like knuckle or fingertip those work real well instead of the rectangle ones

4 First aid cream packs

how about a tube of neosporum instead

glad to see no burn cream .... more people are alergic to that than they know

how about some saline solution and an eye wash cup ? we all get stuff in our eye from time to time on the trail.

maybe a CPR breather thinginy ( ??? )

sounds like a good idea keep us posted

Ive also been looking into Military grade MRE's (Meals Ready to Eat)

those are a little pricey arent they the cheapest I have seen have been 75 bucks a case

I have been thinking of building one.  I bought one from wal-mart in a hard plastic case and that didn't hold up for anything.  I was thinking of building one and use one of those craftsman 12" canvis bags.  I use one for tools and they hold up great.

I can look into the bandages and see what i find.
The tube of neosporin would be a definite thing to add, along with a full tube of good blistex chapstick
I cant count the times i forgot my chapstick and had dry chappy lips all weekend.
Ill check on the eyewash, i think ive seen squeeze bottles of eye wash, as long as its not too big to fit in the pack easily
I definetly want to add a instruction card on CPR and some other handy life-saving techniques, and it already comes with a small book of basic bandage techniques and what not.
Unfortunatly, the kit does have 4 small things of burn ointment. I dont know if its the highly allergic kind or not. Something ill look into.

Ive also been looking into Military grade MRE's (Meals Ready to Eat)

Yes, theyre a little pricey, i can get by the case and keep the price down around $8-9 per meal.
Theyre really high in good calories that give you energy, (think military and hiking 40 miles) so you can actually snack on one all day long and stay full and energetic. They also come with their own food heating element that you just add water to. A good hot meal could be invaluable if you were stuck in the snow or something.

Thanks for the great input!

I carry an industrial kit and my brother has a mini paramedic triage kit that the rescue teams carry, you should always have one with you. Take some first-aid classes too so that you know what to do if something does happen, a CPR class is also a good one to have under your belt. Having a few trained people out there with you could make the difference in not only dressing a wound properly but it may save your life or one of your friends. Don't just stop with the first-aid kit.

Thats a good option too. How soon are you gonna be putting these packs together? Are you distributing them or are you a rep for the supplier? Im interested either way.

I have them for sale right now if you want one, I can have one together and shipped tomorrow or tuesday.
Ill have to punch some numbers on what theyll be with the few extras (full chapstick tube, full tube of neosporin, etc.)
but it shouldnt be any more than $45 + shipping
Im gonna print up some easy to read medical instruction cards too to throw in too, but i can do those in an hour.

Im trying to keep the price down as much as possible,
im just distributing them personally at this point, and im only making around $5 each, but if enough people are interested i would consider buying a case of them and that would help bring the cost down.
Same with the extra things im adding to them, if enough people are interested and are gonna buy one, ill buy in bulk and that will bring the individual price down.
Im not really looking to do this to make a bunch of money, i just thought it was a nice cheap kit that, with a few additions, would be a great addition to any wheelers check list for the trail.
Mines gonna be permanently behind my seat in the extra cab cubby hole.

No, but i can get you an actual quote tomorrow.
its relatively small, and really pretty light weight, so i imagine anywhere in the 48 couldnt be more than $10
should be around $7-8 i hope..

As a wheeler you should always have duct tape in your rig..... Perhaps bubble gum too. You can hold a toyota together with zipties even. HEHE.

As a wheeler you should always have duct tape in your rig..... Perhaps bubble gum too. You can hold a toyota together with zipties even. HEHE.

Haha, you should see the industrial grade zipties kyle gave me...
Theyre like 3 feet long, a good inch wide, and gnarly thick.
Those, some flat tow strap and some ductape held his hanger back on when it popped off....

great idea      but what about condoms :dunno:

and i agre on a MRE

funny, if you want some condoms in yours, ill personnaly go out and buy some for it

The Mre's are a really good thing to have. ive heard of people piecing them out when stranded and making one last for a couple days because of their high calorie count. I mainly like the shelf life, durable packaging and self heating they offer.
You could take one with you on a snow run and laugh at everyone while eating your nice hot meal.
Currently, im in the process of getting some military-grade MRE's, but theyre probably gonna be somewhere around $10 a meal...

I have 2 one is for my truck, it is always there waiting. I do have another it goes where I go, not only does it have a first-aid kit but it has a rain poncho, beany, gloves, jacket, rope, etc, etc, and yes it also has about 3 MRE's in it all stowed in your run of the mill school back pack.

Couple things to add.  Make sure your first aid kit has a pair of tweezers.  Second, add a tube of Oragel to the kit.  I have seen someones toothache ruin more weekend outings way too many times.  For eye wash, you can buy a whole box of those sterile tear eye drops in individual tubes for cheap.  I carry a cheap HF pencil magnet-the ones that telescope in my kit.  Works great for raising those little unseeable metal splinters out of your hand and then you can grab with tweezers.  Also handy for metal splinters in eyes.  Some PeptoBismo tablets will help a sour stomach/diahrea and take up little space.
I also keep a pair of cheapo Walmart reading glasses in my kit-the ones that are 2x or more magniiers, and fold up in a tube about the size of a toothbrush.  They are great for anyone to use as a magnifyer to see tiny splinters, ticks, etc.
