OK Im runnin 5.29's and I dont want to hurt my new motor or Tranny when they are done

So I was gonna run 33's and I was told it will run the RPM's too high on the road.

So the question is what do I do ???

Run 35's to keep the RPM's down or will it be OK  :headscratch:

Its only a 14 miles round trip but there are hills between here and work.

You can run 195/50's on it and not hurt it. Its all about the rpm's.  If you have 33's great, just keep the rpm's down under 3500 at a cruise and it'll be fine.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

If you dont already have the 33's, get 35's.....
I ran 33's and I was a little overgeared
I put 37's on it and it couldn't pull hills for crap
Went down to 35's and its perfect.....

IMHO, 35's are the perfect combo for 5.29's and DD....

Rocksurfer

My brother ran 5:29's and 33's and it was fine on the highway, I was running 33's with 4:88's in the exact duplicate of his truck and I would beat him in top end but who goes 100mph all the time in something that supposed to be a rockcrawler? :gap:

33's, 5.29's = 5th all the way up the steep  :moon: Twain Harte hill. I know with 5.29's & 35's I would down shift to 4th to pull that same hill in my 4Runner.

I gotta get me some Daytons for my 4Runner  :gap:

I've been DD'ing 4.10's and 37's for a while now...  People make diff gearing out to be a way bigger deal than it needs to be.

Have you ever driven a geared truck?  If you had, you would never go back....Sure, you can drive a 4.10 truck all day, buts its a whole different world to drive one that is geared properly!!!
IMO gears are one of the first things I would do to a truck that would see the street....If it wasnt gonna see the street, maybe 4.10's and duals w/ 4.7's

about what mph are you runnin with  33's and 5.29 gearing at 3500 rpm or whatever the safe cruising rpm is

With 33s and 5.29 gears with the engine at 3500 rpm and a .85 5th gear (w56 series 5th gear) you will be going at around 76 mph. Does that answer your question?

Volcom

I ran 33's and 5.29's all last year.  It did fine the highway and around town.  35's would have been ideal but the 33's were free

I have run 33's & 529 gears for 8 years with no problems. 3500rpm is closer to 70mph in 5th with my set-up. I have driven over 150k with this combo

Hills are easier as you have "more power" due to gearing. Is that what you were asking ???

All_Set

I recall 5.29  + 33" tires to be bothersome on the highway.  Something to consider, most tires don't "measure" up to there stated measurements.  I believe my used 33" measured out to 29.5" aired up.  (might be why I remember it as bothersome? )

(with my 29.5"  33's.)
        3500rpm
         5.29            4.88
5th    68.27mph     74.0mph
