« on: Jun 18, 2008, 04:38:14 PM »
ok my motor is turning over and evrything but it will not fire! i have gas to my motor and i have spark. i dont know what the deal is. but its smoking out of the exaust like a white color. i dont know what that means. maybe its running too rich? or the injectors are cloged. idk. what do you guys think could be the problem?

white smoke is usually coolant. Does the smoke smell sweet?

white smoke at startup might also be steam, gotta realize the pipes are cold and that engine trying to turn is hot, creating steam that appears white

what about your timing? how consistently is it cranking? is it lugging like almost not turning or is it spinning like its running? how have you verified spark and fuel? try shooting carb cleaner into the intake, if it runs, you know you have a fuel problem... how is your fuel pump?

check and double check all your grounds and power connections, make sure your battery is good

i checked spark by holding a screwdriver in the plug wire and it shocked the ::pokinit:: out of me. and for the fuel i disconected it at the filter and turned it over and gas cam shooting out the gas line. (and todd i havnt fixed that line yet. i just cut that whole peace of and hose clamped it to the hard line. it held up with the old motor.) and about the timmning, it starts of lugging and when i hold the key over it speeds up and is turning over normal. im go spray starting fluid in the intake and see if it starts. ill let you guys know in like 5 mins.

check the timing, it can try and sound like its going to run 180* off.... but never run.... does it make any wierd noises or hissing or backfiring when cranking?

oh, I forgot all about being 180 off... that could be a possibiilty, and it will not run like that. When you put your distributor in, was cyl 1 at TDC with both valves closed and the rotor pointed at #1? If not, then you did the distributor wrong, and it could very well be off like jimbo said.

i think your timing is off

have you set your base timing? you need to line the crank and cam to 0* and make sure that when you put in the distributor that the rotor of it is facing forward and up @ a 45* angle....

for a 22r or re

the distributor needs to be in the right orientation, if it is not, it will not work, the crank needs to be aligned on the 0* mark.. where the little mark is on the crank pulley and where the timing tag is on the block

when i put it in, the crank pully notch was with the 0*. so to check if my timming is 180 degrees off i can just put the #1 plug where the #4 is, and the #2 were the #3 is right? (on the cap.)

no, realign the crank to be @ 0 again.... the distributor is where you need to adjust... you need to pull the cap off and align the rotor to point to the #1 cylinder, once it is in and seated, it needs to be pointed @ a 45* angle towards the front of the engine

turn it off.... it is the oil pressure sender either for a guage or an idiot light... if its for the gauge, its a big piece and on sr5 trucks

also, the senders are not interchangeable, using an idiot light sender on an sr5 guage will fry the gauge

red or green? neither or my senders are red or green... its a sending unit.... not a color?

you probably need to tune the engine....
