Oregon Engine Buyers
« on: May 21, 2008, 06:41:42 PM »
This is for all you guys out there that are thinking of buying a reman motor in oregon. Cylinder Head Specilties also know as Motor Crate Engines, is not the spot to buy your engine. They claim that the engine you buy comes with a 7 Year/70,000 mile warenty. Well let me tell you from first hand experiance they do not back they're warrenty up.
so heres the story, as most of you guys know i have been workin on my 88 pickup for a while now. when i got the truck it had a blown motor a wasnt able to be rebuilt. so i went out and bought a long block (22RE) from Cylinder Head Specilties for $1100. A couple months later i started installing the motor. A couple weeks ago i finally got to the point were i could start the truck up. so i started it up and it had what me and all my friends and my machanic thought was a Rod Knock. I called the Cylinder Head Specielties and told them the story. They told me to pull the motor and bring it to them on a engin stand. so the next day I pulled the motor and brought them the engine. once i arrived at the company they pulled the motor out of the bed of my buddys truck with a fork lift. And while they were doing that the almost droped the motor. the chain came un-hooked from one of the hooks bolted to the head. leaving the chain only hooked up to one of the hooks and swinging around. then they brought the motor into the shop and they gave me a recipt for droping it off and they said it would be done in 3 days. now it is 21 days and 5 phone calls later and i still dont have the motor back. when i called the last time i asked for the owner and he got on the phone and started cusing me out and saying theres nothing wrong with the motor and that i cant get the motor back. he is also saying my warrenty is voided. even though i didnt do anything to the motor but start it. then i just asked for my money back, he replied, Theres no Fuc**** way you are getting your money or motor back! Im shocked by this who deal and i will be going to court with them asap. this is some Bull Sh** and i would hope that after you guys read this you guys never buy a motor from them. also i hope you pass this on to your toyota friends. heres there website check it out, but dont belive anything they say! http://www.chspdx.com/

Wow man. That really sucks. Good luck getting the money back and getting a good engine in the truck! Find out if it is legal to tape phone calls and start taping them (if it is legal). Then, when you go to court, you will have the OWNER on tape cussing you out and stuff like that. Best of luck man.

Sue the crap out of him in court... you got totally screwed over, and its BS. You should get the price of the long block back and then some IMO because of all the crap you have had to deal with.

I posted an add on craigslist saying the same thing i said on here and heres another problem some guy has had with this company.

Well I also have had some problems with them. My 22re blew a head gasket and in doing so ate away a piece of the coolant jacket on the #4 cylinder. I took the head off and after shopping around found cylinder head specialists to be the most inexpensive ( I geuss you get what you pay for) well I picked up the head and took it home to get my beloved 84 toyota p/u running again. well i got the head all bolted on the new gaskets all installed, the distributor installed, exaust and intake, then came the spark plugs, well I am a back yard mechanic, but I do know I had no problems with any of the spark plug holes in the past, I replaced the regularly, I would know, well #2 had a heli coil in it, and to top it off it was put in from the mating surface side leaving the tang in the way of the spark plug threading in. Well I got on the phone and called cylinder head specialists and after getting the owner on the phone ( had the same crappy attitude the other fella is describing, I was told to remove the head and return it to them. Come on fellas the head kit is 120$ and the head bolts are not reusable (from what I've been told and yes I sheled out to get factory bolts. So needless to say Steves machine in Tigard came to my house and removed the upside down heli coil and replaced it 100& later (wich I am still confused on how my threads got damaged to begin with. So i contacted cylinder head specialist and they said I had voided the warranty by letting someone else work on it, and they could not help me. So pass the word this place is a ripp off!!!

Same here, and they sell stuff on ebay too  :shake:  You should email a link to this thread to them and let them know the publicity they're getting.  I'd also suggest cross posting on pirate and other yota boards.

I called alot of those same rebuilders and just the phone call was enough to not get a motor from them.  Call up one of the local TV stations.  I haven't watched the news in forever, but I think KATU 2 does a on your side story line thing!  Call them.  That might get them to reconsider.  Nothing like the tv crew in your store to get them scared.
Miss ya Dean (4THEWKN) & Kyle (KYOTA)!!

:dunno:  Personally, I'd consider pressing charges.  You purchased an engine from them, and gave them the $$ for it.  There was a problem, so you took the motor back, and now you don't get your money OR the engine!?!?!  You just got robbed.  I'm assuming you still have the receipt for you taking the engine back, so I'd imagine it would be fairly easy to prove.

Damn dude almost the same exact thing happened to me.  I bought an engine from them and ran it for maybe 1000 miles and it threw a rod.  I took it in and they said they would see what they could do.  Couple days later they told me it was my fault but couldn't tell me why.  I called bull crap on it and went in swinging.  They re-built the motor free of labor charge but I still had to buy a re-build kit.  I ll never ever go to them or have anything to do with them again.
