For the 3.4, I needed to build a new set of 23 spline duals to mate to the R151 transmission. With a trip to the MarlinCrawler shop, I was set up with everything I needed, and a little bit of advice. The combination in my drivetrain will be a 3.4L engine -> 3.0 R150 bellhousing -> R151 transmission -> 23 spline 2.28 forward shift crawl box -> MC07 adapter -> 23 spline 4.7 top shift case. Everything should work... I was told the 3.0 bellhousing will put the pivot point an inch off from where the 3.4 bellhousing would, so that will be an obstacle. If I used a 3.4 bellhousing I think everything would still work, but I'd have my clutch slave on the driver's side which might block my exhaust route? If anybody reading this knows what I'm in for or knows a way to make it all painless, post up.

Doner truck: 1997 Toyota 4Runner Limited SR5. This thing is loaded. It was hit on the front, which took out a lot of stuff. The frame is bent. I think the only thing I will need to replace is the radiator.

Where I'm at now.

Wow, it's really been over a year already?

I'll attempt to bring this up to date. It's now finally a running driving truck again. Watch how easy this looks.
Alright so first the engine has to come out of the donor.

Rear sump and new dipstick.

Then cut the old motor mounts off the frame to be reused as new ones.

Bolt them to the engine side like so.

Make some quick frame plates.

Drop it in. Find out where you think you want it.

Check hood clearance. Hood scoops are lame.

Good shot of the finished mounts.

More of the engine bay put together.

Now on to the dash.

Since I pulled the old dash out and kept it with the old engine, I needed a new dash for this one.

This should work.

Taking it all out was the easy part... Now I have my pieces that need to go back in.
Dash bars must be made into a hybrid.

A/C boxes from the donor.

Harness.

Now it's back on the 37's.

5 speed swapped it with an R151 and dual ultimates.

I've got a couple hundred miles on the swap and I'm driving down to KOH next week.

Thanks guys. It's finally getting there. It gets hard to work on the same project for so long without getting to enjoy it.

It's been so long since I've driven it with the 22re so I forgot how slow it used to be... but at least now it's got enough power to get out of its own way.

Not very much. I cut the drivers side end off of each and slid the 97 bar into the piece of the 87 bar that bolts into the cab. You can see it in the pics. Then for the passenger side I just used all pieces from the 97 and made it work.

Sweet work!! Do you have a pic of where the dipstick housing goes into the engine? I have a mid-sump oil pan on mine but I need to swap to a rear-sump and want to make sure the dipstick will still work.

You can either cut your old dipstick and make a new line for "full" or you can get the new dipstick parts. Depending on the motor, it may be pre-drilled for the new dipstick hole and plugged, or you have to drill your own hole.

Alright so I've been slowly checking things off the to do list. First up was to get my 12voltguy elocker panel into the new dash and have lockers again.

I picked up some shocks for the rear. It drives much more comfortably now.

Then it was time to finally do a stereo. I went with a cheap Pioneer headunit that sticks out of the dash a little bit because there isn't enough room back there to mount it all the way in.

The 87 truck had the speakers in the dash and the 97 truck had the speakers in the doors so I was completely out of luck there... I cut holes in my doors and mounted a pair of 6" Pioneer speakers and mounted two more with some custom brackets back where the stock rears go. Also got the slaps in the trunk with a 10" JL subwoofer.

I ordered up a 12voltguy rear window wiring kit to simplify things. There isn't any 87 wiring left in this truck and I just didn't want to deal with making the 97 harness work with the tailgate. Before I got this kit I just had two wires going directly into the rear window motor and I was carrying a jumper pack around with me to roll it up and down. The kit came very complete including zip ties, connectors, photos, installation instructions, etc. Thanks seabass!
