Gilman Springs road is a 10 mile stretch on my way to and from work every day that only has 2 lanes, one going east and one going west.I've been driving that road for a couple years now but never really realised how dangerous it is.It has alot of blind turns and people are always passing around them.I've seen a couple of crashes,a bunch of close ones and a few weeks back a REALLY nasty one where I saw the dead body.I was looking through my pictures just now and found this one from a month or so ago, luckily nobody died on that one but the people got hurt pretty bad including a young boy

It doesn't mean that it's a dangerous road it means there are idiot drivers driving on it.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

Yeah, it's mostly idiots that make a road deadly.  We had a problem here a while back with motorcyclists racing the Wilson River hwy from Portland to Tillamook.  Many deaths, but it wasn't the motorcyclists.  You could see their tire marks crossing the center line in the corners.

We also have a couple other roads that are fun on a motorcycle.  But if you see a tractor trailer on it, you better stop before the corners.  Their trailers actually cross over the opposite fog line the corners are so bad.  But fun to drive in a motorcycle or sportscar.

And if there are idiot drivers on it, then it is a dangerous road.  Most accidents are human error, not nature, and not vehicle malfunction.

I wear mine too.  The only serious crash I have ever been in (on public streets that is) only involved me because when I tried to avoid an idiot I got bounced to the passenger side of the vehicle.  At that point no one was driving.  Had I been wearing my seatbelt I might have been able to maintain control...

It's kinda a matter of symantics...  yes, bad drivers can make a road dangerous to drive, but I still hate to blame the road.  I have been driving lots of years on roads that many people consider dangerous, but I prefer them to boring interstate trips.  Our neck-o-the woods is lucky to have some great two-lanes, including one that has long been highly regarded as one the world's finest -- in spite of failed efforts to keep it a local secret.   The cat's out of the bag anyway, thanks in part to a recent Road & Track article.  http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?section_id=7&article_id=6666

It is regularly used as part of the California Mille route, and bikers adore it.  In fact, Nate busted some bones on it (well, technically, off it) and hopefully learned a thing or two in the process.  But it wasn't the road's fault, Nate simply made of couple of -- uh, errors in judgement.

MWM, I saw that show.  You are absolutely correct!!

It definately sees a ton of traffic, and lots of chp too  :maddest:

  broke my first bones there!  What mistakes, you're not supposed to triple corner speeds  :disturbed:  It's definately a prized road among sport bikers up here, and for good reason!  It has everything from tight corners to long sweeping corners, dips, bobs and weaves and plenty of quick hills to pull wheelies off  :shhh:  I used to always ride in the back so I didn't get sucked into riding fast (which didn't work cause I'd get bored and start passing people till I got to the fast group), and a slower rider waived me by once in the rolling hills.  Coming out of a dip while still turning right, I lofted the front end and rode a short wheelie, then dropped it while still turning  :_oops:  Surprisingly it touched down smooth, and when we later stopped the dude behind me was grinning ear to ear and said "that's the coolest thing I've ever seen!"

For dad's sake I won't go into too much detail on what all I've done on that road, but let's just say there are plenty of places where you can easily hit 140mph... or so I've been told...

More traffic than years ago, but still light by most standards...  and more CHP??  Maybe they heard a rumor about high speed shenanigans out there...   :dunno:

We used to go to Zion National park for fun like that because the rangers weren't able to right tickets and by the time the law got there we were done.  Well, to make a long story short they made a deal with local law enforcement and got deputized.  The next time we decided to go for a rip in the park they got all 12 of us and impounded our bikes.  That was a sad day for the boys and I...  We paid dearly to get our machines back.

Sucky!  Park rangers, fs rangers and f&g wardens can all write tickets, though you kinda have to piss em off to get it done.  We've passed one at 130 once, and his buddies were stopped down the road and just waved us on  :_oops:
