1982 22R Double Timing chain on 1984?
« on: Mar 18, 2008, 04:15:00 AM »
Will a 1982 22R Double Timing Chain kit fit a 1984 22R, without modification?
Thanks in advance,
Ernest

if i remember right from asking around when i wanted to know about this, you'll need an 82 or older maybe 83 timing chain cover. one of the years they switched to single row in the middle. i really wanted to do this mod to my 84 but with lack of funds and wants for other things, i postponed it. some one will chime in and correct me if i'm wrong or agree eventually.
lets not and say we did.

up to  late 1984  all timing covers  would accept  the dual row timing chain

bolts right up

you will need a dual row  oil pump drive spline  or have a machine shop cut the  single row   drive spline down to size

2x above plus the steel chain guides use different bolts, 4 shorter ones . as dose the chain tensioner, it's wider, so 2 longer ones. go to Toyota and buy the bolts and new lock washers and you'll sleep better.  they're cheap, it was less than 10 dollars for them all. tell them it's for an 81 22r.

or just find a 20R  in the junk yard  and snatch everything from the front of the block forward
