somethings missing here... *scratches head*  OH!  That big lump of :pokinit: that always tried to make sweet love to my driveshaft!!

This is pretty mangled.  Dont have a good one to compare to but the mount plate is at a 90 to the square if that says how bent it is.

the pump bent over from the bracket

Mock up of the fuel cell.  4023 cubic inches ~ 17.5 gallons

3" on either side to the coilover.

jimbo74

are you making this fuel cell? or did you buy one to that dimension?

Im making it.  Steel and POR-15 sealer/rust preventative.

Mossyrocks

Got the cell itself almost done.  Baffle and slosh control are done.

And extended the sending unit 1.25" down.  The fuel pump 2" down.

The top is finished in with the pump assembly but the camera died.

Mossyrocks

Im thinking a 45` filler right here on the top pointed through the tubes is my best bet and might look good as well.

unless I get one warped all to :pokinit: as well.

Here it is as it sits tonight.

Its mounted in shear because out the bottom is the only way out.

boggerunner

that cell turned out sweet, i installed an aluminum one is a customers rig, and he bought the accell inline fuel pump, it works great, but he has to open the tank to check the fuel level, did u install the fuel gauge?

Mossyrocks

Yup, gauge, pump, and all.  The whole assembly is in there.

Mossyrocks

Got the filler figured out, steel pipe at an angle out the top.  Right next to the air compressor...  I forgot to get a pic while it was in there so Ill get it next time.

Heres the cap as of now, 2" 316 stainless pipe cap.  It will look a lot different in the next couple of days.

Here are the front mounts for the tank.

Here are the rear mounts for the tank.

And heres where it goes.  Still have some gussets and crap to make for the crossmembers.

Told ya it'd look a lot different.  Nothing 2 mins on the lathe cant handle, cant even tell what it was anymore.

The soon to be neck.  I put a collar on it so I can use a rubber gasket for the cap to seat on.

And a very big thanks to Steve Hudlow for the lathe work.  He takes the credit for that one.

that cap is bad A$$ i love it well the cell and all is sweet but i just dont have access to a lathe so i dont get to see stuff turned much

Nice! I'm in the research stage of my fuel cell for an 85 Runner.

Did you just use the stock pump and whatnot? Where did you get all the fittings, and how are you running fuel line to the motor? What thickness steel? What's the rule of thumb for baffling?

Sorry to bombard you with questions, but when you do nice work you usually pay for it  especially from yuppies like myself  :disturbed:

Mossyrocks

The tank is drying.

The crossmembers are done.  And I got rid of the factory tube crossmember thats welded through the frame.  I just cut out the frame and plated it.

Gotta let it dry, hook up the lines, extend the harness to the pump, bleed the brakes, and figure out what to do with the exhaust.  Im not making a hanger for the stock muffler to just get cut off when I link it.  So Its probably not gonna have a muffler for the next couple of months.

Stock pump with fuel injection hose.  Just using some good clamps with it.

The baffle is just to keep fuel at the pump when the tank gets low and to keep the sloshing down to a minimum.

Thanks! How do you POR-15 that sucker? Do you just put it in, slosh it around, and then bake it or put a fan on it? I'm in need of some help before I try this, possibly this weekend. Thanks!

Jordan7118

One more thing - what thickness steel for the shell? I guess the bottom and half up the sides need to be a little thicker. I just don't wanna screw this up... Kinda important  :disturbed:

Mossyrocks

The por-15 comes with an etcher/cleaner you slosh around and can re-use.  Then rinse and dry....  completely.   Pour in the sealer, slosh it around, pour it out, and let it dry for 4 or 5 days.  I let it sit 3.5 with a fan.  I used 16ga. and doubled all that around the bottom.

It fired right up tonight.  Sounds like :pokinit: with no muffler though.

Congrats! Thanks for the info. I think I'm gonna go this route, as cells are expensive and Toyota crap is usually cheap  Thanks a bunch!

DieselD

Thats awesome fab work right there!! very well done.

Mossyrocks

Thanks everybody

I drove it home tonight and it drives alot different than it used to.  It sits level now, pulled the back down about an inch or so, and no more gangsta lean.

Also, for the first time in 2 years my gauge says full.  It took 16.5 gallons to fill it up.  Pretty good considering I took 1.5" off the mockup which was 17.5.
