Bout time.  Had to DODGE an idiot yakking on the phone in a parking lot yesterday.  And another driving around town that I had to go around.  20mph in a 35 zone.

Seriously - 40% of all accidents are caused by distractions.  Over 50% of them currently are... cell phones, GPS units, and PDAs.  Really scary, and living here in L.A, I deal with one idiot every couple of days.

Funny thing is there has always been a law on the books for distracted driving which would apply for makeup appliers, electric shavers, eater, so on and so on. I would think that it could also apply to phone users, but it seems it is an overlooked law that nobody enforces.

Yeah, laws are pointless if the damn cops don't enforce them.

I heard of this law, glad it's finally put to use.

solar86yota

Sounds like a good law to me, I can't count the number of times iv'e almost been drilled by some dumb person on a cell phone! I v'e been hit twice, once rearended by some dumb lady on a phone, another time hit on my mtn bike at a crosswalk. Some people need to roll waaay back on the cell phone use!!
By the time I get the money for an SAS I'll be 65 at this rate!

I don't own a cell phone or a pager. I just hang around everyone I know, all the time. If someone wants to get a hold of me, they just say 'Mike,' and I say 'what?' and turn my head slightly.
