why we 4wheel toyotas

I don't know if this has already been talked about but i don't care. I want to know why you 4wheel Toyota's. I started out 4wheeling a 88 pickup with 31" tires and a true trac in the rear and i went every  where in it even kept up with jeep with 33" tires. I owned a Cherokee and that thing was a and i wheeled with ford and had to pull them out all the time, I owned a 06 Tacoma and took it to some bad places that normal people would not go. My 85 4runner ran with the o2 censor un hooked and toke that where trucks with 40" tire got stuck but i didn't. i think Toyota's are un stopable they just keep going i love Toyota's.

You hit the nail on the head! Toyota wheelers are NOT normal, and we need a truck that can keep up and be dependable to get us home, without breaking the bank to do it. Nothing is free, but the cost to improve the ability of a yota is lower than for other "popular" makes, plus, it starts out as a very capable platform to build on (as evidenced by the near-stock rigs that made it to MCR this past fall.)

Started wheelin with buddies in H.S. that had Yota's. Bought a blazer bout 8 years ago and wheeled it hard for about 2 years. Then about 5 years ago in L.C. we came across some Yota guys( now friends) after watching them flog on thier I sold the K-5 and bought an FJ 40, then traded it for an 85 and haven't looked back since.   I do miss the Blazer, just because it was big and looked bad ass!!!

Had a cherokee, beat it to hell. Bud took me out in his 84 ex cab, all stock, and went thru stuff in 2wd in needed 4 lo in my cherokee, for. So I bought his 81 with blown motor, about 2 yrs ago, and havent stopped since. I like toyotas because u can fix anything with 2 screwdrivers, a 10,12,14,and 17 wrench. They go forever, and r basically a fullsize pickup, in a lil package. Heeps r fur girls.

Why I drive 3 Toyotas:
Dependability
Decent gas mileage
Light weight
Ease of working on them
Parts are cheap and easily accessible
You can get a yota for a couple grand or less
The look on a jeep owners face as you pass them as they sit stuck $$priceless$$

I wheel my Yota because I love Yotas! Second, I like having a trail worthy rig that gets better gas milage than most other trucks! Third I used to own a Mazda, and you couldn't even find stock parts for the D@^# thing, much less any good aftermarket parts! Couldn't even get a body lift for the truck, because it was an auto!

because jeeps blow goat nutz, If you are just starting out and you want a crash course in wrenching you have two choices.  Buy a VW bug or a jeep, either way your going to be wrenching on it every week.

My crash course was with a Triumph Spitfire for my first vehicle  DONT ever, ever, ever buy a british car....I pushed the dang thing more than I drove it......

I've wheeled just about everything, even my Justy but I love Toyota's for the simple fact that they are easy to build, cheap to build, cheap to maintain, and take a licking and keep right on moving. Once I even drove my 4Runner home with a busted upper a-arm from Santiago to Riverside. Even in stock trim a Toyota has one of the highest clearances around.

The thing I love about them is put a 2" shackle on them and install your 33's weather you have an 85 and just need shackles or crank in the torsion bars on an 86+. About the only thing you need to do beyond that is flatten that seams on the inside of the firewall so they don't get cut by it when they do rub.

i had a chevy luv for about 2 months then found this site and was basically goin to convert it to an entirely toyota platform, so i decided to sell it and found my truck cheap. plus its what all the kool kids drive

It was cheap and it doesn't break nearly as often.  For a poor working shmoe like me, it's my only viable option if I want to have money for new shoes or the occasional movie ticket.

first up is my bronco 11 4years oil pump went out
80's fullsize jimmy 6months liked it until timing chain broke
traded jimmy for my Toyota 4runner 22re im keeping this one
haven't really gotten to wheel my 4runner yet torup front cv's
but 2wd better then my bronco with lockers and swamper's

First time I did a organized trail ride was up in the Poconos and everyone had jeeps.  One guy was driving a Toyota with an SAS it was a nice truck and went everywhere.  I talked to the guy he was real cool.  I decided then I wanted a Toyota.  I did not know anything about them but I knew I wanted something smaller than my Dodge Ram on 38's I was scrapping up against allot of trees and such.  Love my toy on 36 some day I might try to go up to 40's though.

I wheel Toyotas because I work hard for a living and can't afford have my off road toy cost me an arm and a leg.   Besides, I would rather spend my time wheelin and not making trail repairs.  I think trail repairs suck.   Most of the mags seem to bragg about having to do it.  I guess its another thing I don't understand.

Unfortunately trail repair is a necessary evil, still who here wants to do that all the time. Everytime I took my Willys out it broke something that needed immediate attention, I've broke things on my Toyota's but most of the time a minor fix and off you go again. Sure you really didn't fix it but you fixed it enough to get you home and repair it there. I think the worst break I ever had was when my upper a-arm broke on my 4runner, all I did was strap it to the lower and drove it out and drove it home. Felt like I was driving a forklift but it worked.

6'4" and I had pleanty of room, didn't even have the seat all the way back. Those things are built for big people.

Beetles have a surprising amount of room.  I fit better in them than I do in my Toy (6'6")  Not that I'd ever own one though.

Heck, the first time I blew a HG on my 3.0, I drove it around for 2-3 days after (didn't know what it was at first)  Probably explains why I had to replace the motor, but hey, It got me where I needed to be

i took my 88 pickup threw a strem and fluded the motor and got pulled out, i pulled the spark plugs out and the intake tube of and cranked it over till the water came out of the motor then put it all togeather fired it up and ran it the rest of the day and drove home the next morning but the 3 hour drive was only 2 and half when the #4 piston rod broke and came out the side of the block
