no you cant this is my idea... lol I am not sure why more people dont do it
People do, its not a common mod but I have seen quite a few fj80 fronts under minis on the intardweb. I'd love to pick up a fj80 frront but they are scarce or really high $$$$$ around these parts. I personally would either keep the fj rear, for the bigger stronger 3rd, or I would run a taco rear with the fj front. I think it wopuld be a good compromise in with without being full width, or narrow.

Yes, the axle is in pieces, so I will get you the length of the inners later on today or tomorrow. As for the spline count, it isn't 27. it's like 23 or something wierd like that. I'll get you the count as well when I get the length. Also since I'm rollin with the good news, 4x4labs does not make a kit for this axle, nor do they intend on making a kit for this axle. They mention cruiser axles on their site, but they are referring to the earlier cruisers. The square pattern for the four studs on the fj80 cruiser knuckle is larger than the minitruck stuff, and unique to the 80 as far as I know. It may be the same square pattern on the newer cruisers (like the 100's), but I haven't seen one up close and can't say for sure. It also comes off the bottom of the knuckle instead of the top. On the top, there is a trunnion post (like the bottom of the knuckle on the mini truck stuff), but it only has two bolt holes. Yes, you heard me right. Two bolts on top, four bolts on the bottom. I've even looked at turning the inner knuckle upside down to get the four bolts on top, but then you steering will be all jacked up. your best bet at this time, is to make the stock stuff work coming off the bottom of the knuckle, and brace the crap out of it.

OK, so here it is. The 80 inner is a 24 spline, not 27 or thirty like the mini stuff. It is however, a lot bigger than the 27 spline stuff. I read the measurements posted up a while back, and the inner is almost the same size as the 30 spline mini stuff. As for length, I compared the shortside FJ80 to a short side mini (couldn't find the longside) and it looks to be 2.5 inches longer. I measured the short side mini at just under 15 3/8" long, and the cruiser inner sat right at 17 7/8" long.

sounds spendy up front, what about a wider diamond axle with junkyard fj80 axleshafts and birfs and use you existing hi steer knuckles 3rd etc. Just lengthen tie rods and get fj80 axleshafts?? Wouldnt it be less pricey since you would use all your old stuff?

The outer mini knuckles won't fit the inner FJ80 knuckles. To get the bigger FJ80 birfs, you have to deal with the steering issues. Their not even that big of an issue. Just buy an over seas draglink arm, and tie your draglink into the tierod. It's not a bolt up scenario, but it can be done.

The T-100 rear is exactly 66.75" wide and uses the standard 8.4" third thats in the Tacos. So yes, you can get 5.29s for them. I have one under my '00 Taco with a HP Dana 44 front. They work great together. Good luck with your build man! And why does everyone always overlook the T-100 and Tundra rear when trying to go full width?

Slee offroad is the only company publicly offering a highsteer set-up for the FJ/FZJ80 front ends. And actually, they only offer steering for the FZJ80 front end with ABS knuckles. The earlier FJ80 axles had different sized rotors, calipers, and their knuckles don't have an ABS port. There is another guy who is in the beginning stages of highsteer, but it isn't out yet.

I've been compiling a tech article with everything you would wan't to know about these axles, including comparison pics between early and late differences, as well as comparisons with the minitruck stuff. However, I lost my job about 2 months ago, and need some money to finish out the article. Figure a complete article by the end of the year, if not sooner. If you guys have any questions in particular (or know someone who want's to sponsor my article  with parts or cash :eyebrow:), feel free to ask, and I'll give you what I know.

i bet more people dont do it, simply for the steering problems. by problems i mean having to figure out where you are going to run you tie rod and such.  i would not mind getting one and just running 4 cyl thirds, the extra width would be nice.  you could always just go with a diamond axle and have it built to the exact width you want, and then you could use all of the stuff from your mini front housing except for the tie rod, drag link and inner axle shafts.

Did you try calling Luke at 4x4 Labs? Someone mentioned it earlier but I dunno if you ever called him. His website doesnt get updated very often, if at all. He can do pretty much anything you want and specializes in cruiser stuff. hit him up he will probably be at the shop until 4 or 5 today (pacific time).

Im in the process of trying to find high steer for the fj80 axle, slee advertises them but they havent had any in stock forever.. I asked them 3 months ago when I first got my 80 axles, they said any day now. I asked last tuesday, they said the same thing and that they have not had any in since last time I asked. I was going to put the fj80's in my 84, now im buildin a hardcore mini front for about $3000 and its not much stronger than the stock fj80
this my man lysol, fresh out the joint
