No, I mean in your profile you can personally select to have avatars and signitures turned off.
I do cause I show people the board at work and I don't need any iffy avatar images popping up

And I turn off signitures cause I get tired of seeing the same signitures over and over and over.

This is great for when someone's posting pictures.. cuz if they use the spoiler then the dialup people can view one post at a time rather than waiting 15 minutes for 1 page to load!
