coolant in oil!
« on: Jan 25, 2008, 03:35:15 PM »
This is what I got cooking! Ive got an 1988 22RE thats got coolant the oil. Now I got ur all torn down right now. First thing I checked was the head gasket, but unlikely canidate for the problem. Looked good, no wash outs. Checked the timing cover thinking that the chain wore a hole causing a leak which Ive heard was a comin problem or just the timing cover in general. Everything checked out ok. Cant find any visable problems. Anyone got any other ideas on where to look before I spend money to get ur magnaflux?  :inthedark:

Possible cracked block or head. Did you check the head and block for straightness (warp)?

I've had the gasket go bad on me before without showing any sign of wash outs. Could be also the case.

I hope you at least did a compression/leak down test before you ripped it apart.

Yep, if it wasn't the timing chain thrashing a hole in the cover then it's most likely the head gasket.  I've seen 'em leak bad but look good too!

10-4 did a compression test on her an everything A ok. Got between 150 and 130. Got a little it of a compression range, but still good. Dont know the mileage, I dont know what kind of head gasket it is (felpro). I havent put a strait edge on it yet so Ill take a look at that when I get a Chance. Thanks for the help peoples.
