This is the exact same build I am doing for my 86 Turbo Runner...I guess I need to start a build thread...my truck is in a little better condition...just got the front and rear 3rds back with a detroit in the V6 Rear and an Aussie in the front............I need a drivers side fender and maybe a new door....I bought the truck with a blown turbo...swapped in the TEC upgrade and took it on the trail with street tires it got unstuck out of a gnarly hole but the strong turbo pretty much toasted the crap Auto trans........I found an old W56 and have remove auto and began cut up of all IFS crap upfront......I found this truck for a decent price and it has virtualy zero rust which is pretty impossible in the Caribbean.

Hi everyone. I got my 4runner down to my house today. It was raining and windy as hell, but I had to get it. Its in the driveway now. I will take some pictures to show you guys what im working with here. I have some work ahead of me. Id love to see another turbo runner build. Post it up so we all can see it. I dont really want to race to finish anything. I just need it done before Memorial day. I promise to take pictures. So far I havent really had much to take a pictures of. I have to literally redo EVERYTHING on the 4runner. I will have lots of pictures. Thanks everyone for digging my build. I will show you what is going on tomorrow. Cole

What up. Today I cleaned all the nasty smell in the interior. I stripped everything out and sprayed everything with degreaser. I hosed out the whole inside. It smells and looks brand new. I will put all my nice interior in when I'm done with the fab work. When I bought this 4runner 5 years ago it had been wrecked head on into a tree. I kind of half ass welded new inner fenders and radiator support in from another truck. I kept the un-wrecked front clip from the white turbo truck to replace what is on the 4runner right now....

Yeagley

After the inner structure was cut off it was easy to get me grinder in there and cut off the IFS brackets. I went through three 4 1/2" cut off wheels cutting everything off. Cost about 6 bucks. That is probably way cheaper than my last one I did with a torch. It is now dark here so I will clean up the frame rails better tomorrow. I set the turbo trucks front clip on just to fool the neighbors for the night. They all think im crazy. I am out of gas for my welder, so until monday I will clean things up and get the frame ready. I still have to build a front x-member.

haha,
Yeah my neighbors see some strange things going on in my yard they must think what the $%^&
Like me chopping a truck in half, (wrecked on pass side)
Check out my thread its in my sig.,  lots of body fabing and body work
Nice to see this much progress so quik.

I didn't get as much done today as I wanted to. It rained on and off all day. It was cool to grind in the rain because the sparks didn't burn. I cleaned up the frame rails the best I could. The rain was pissing me off so I still have to flapdisk all the welds off on the driver side. The pass. side bracket for the radiator support was bent from a tree I hit years ago. I still have the front of the Xtra cab frame, so I cut off the perfect radiator support brackets for the 4runner. I am going to replace the stock X member in the front of the frame. The stock one is hammered.

86bobbedtoy

Frames gettin there,
It must suck grindin in the rain, hella sticky.
nice work

Yeagley

After thinking about narrowing the front end for quite some time now, I grabbed the grinder and cut 2 1/2" out of each side. I know 5" isn't much to spend all that time narrowing a front end, but when I tube the front end it will still be as wide as a stock truck. I hate big exo's that stick out. I wanted to keep the opening for the radiator the way it was. I also wanted to keep the headlights in their original buckets. In the pictures nothing is welded together. I have vice grips and screws holding everything in place. It got dark so I will fit it all tomorrow. with the hood set on you can see how much narrow the front is. Its not much, but it will look cool.

86bobbedtoy

good idea for the exo,
An exo kills side clearance.

looks good. sometimes little fab work can go a long way... every little inch cut out helps

werty

If i ever get the chance I would run a 22rte again, but the money I spent rebuilding bottom ends was too much. I had a heavy foot with that motor. 3 cranks gone in less than 30K miles sucked. O and 2 turbos. With a stock computer the revlimiter hits at 6100rpm and the next gear for me :yesnod:.

Yeagley

Thanks guys. I didnt get my bottle filled until the end of the day, so I just cut and fit the front end. I ended up cutting out both inner fenders. I will build some new ones. I couldnt get everything in the right spot with the stock inners. The hood hangs about an inch past the fenders now. I will worry about that later. Tomorrow if I have time I will build a structure for the inner fenders. I had 3 people come over today and couldnt tell it was narrowed until I told them, and one of them has an 85 4runner.

Yeagley

Well its cold and wet here. I cleaned all the IFS welds up today. The front 1/3 of the frame is a little out of whack. I can fix that when I replace the bent front X-member. As soon as the rain stops one of these days I will get the frame square and get some springs hung. I need the axle in so I can put my shock hoops in the right place. Once the shock hoops in I can build some inner fenders.

Yeagley

I threw on my 35's just to get an idea of what it looks like. I havent done anything to the rear yet. Its just the gay blocks that I ran with the IFS lift. I will fix all of that later. Looking down the side you can tell the front is narrowed. These pictures dont really look like it does in real life.

skipnrocks

Looks good! Especially with those 35s on it!
Life is too short!!!   Do something with it!!!

The weather was decent yesterday. I got the radiator support tied back into the firewall using the stock panel on the passenger side. No inner fender yet. I didn't like the sharp seam at the lower corner of the firewall, so I shaved it. I didn't go too extreme. I just wanted it to be smooth in-case a tire hits. I started the firewall on the driver side and ran out of wire in my welder. I will have to finish the front this weekend. I want all the sheetmetal on the front to be finished before I start on the axle. :smokin:
