This project started out as the white Xtra cab truck you see below. The frame and body turned out to be too messed up for me to build. I am swaping the complete running 22RTE from the 86 truck into a 86 SR5 4runner. The motor and turbo are brand new. As of right now I dont have a tranny. Anyone have a R151 they wanna sell??
     Parts I have: Front axle-IFS hubs with Sky kit-vented rotors-V6 calipers-5.29s with Auburn LS-Marlin steering-Square Front shaft, Rear axle-V6 third-5.29s with lock rite-35s on 15x10 rims
I want to keep this truck low to the ground. I plan on shaving the lower corner of the firewall and triming fenders. I think im running stock rears up front and 89-95 toyota rears in the rear. Ive done the rock anchor, I mean, chevy spring thing and wont go back.
Things I want to do: LONGFIELDS, Rear shafts, rotated dual setup, lots of armor, sell the 5.29s with the limited slip and run an ARB , 38's, stripper pole in the back........

86bobbedtoy

why were the fenders and front end off?
Sounds like your off to a great start.
clean 86
Also do you have the thicker V6 radiator?
I heard it really helps with the temp on the 22rte's

Yeagley

I think they are off in that picture to get some dents out. I have to make it nice before I smash it. j/k I think I might actually build a cage to protect this one. I have a bad habit of floping on my side. Radiator is stock replacement. It is the big Radiator stock. I always let it run a few minutes before shutting off to cool down. The pictures make it look clean, but I bought it from the mountains where it snows. There are all kinds of interesting things under the cheap white paint thats flaking off. I am stripping all the paint this week and getting rid of the small rust bubbles under the paint. I will paint it white again. I will do all the body mods then paint. I think I will shoot the half door, extra hard doors, fenders and hood with the same color so if I do smash anything I will have a spare ready to go

hope all ends up well for ya  :beerchug:

Here's one...

Yeagley

Today I picked up some cut off wheels and bobbed the bed 10". Havent welded it back together yet. The frame needs cleaned up. Lots of surface rust, but nothing rotted through. I took the rest of the bed off to clean all the rust on the frame. Im also adding a reciever hitch in the rear of the frame.  This weekend I will cut off anything I dont need(hangers, shock mounts, ect) and at least get it in primer. I want to get the rear lifted and the body ready for paint before I cut off the front end.

Yeagley

Well, I worked on it all day today. There is a definite change in plans here. I bought this truck for pretty cheap with blow head gasket. Built the motor, changed the tranny out and never really messed with anything on it. I knew it had some shitty body work and the driver door never fit right. I took the interior out today to clean stuff up and stop the rust bubbles in all the window channels. The roof has been replaced. Driver side of the cab is from another truck. This looks like it was done 20 years ago. Very bad body work. It has defiantly been rolled and they never got the top straight before welding on a new roof. Not only that, but while checking the bottom of cab I found a kink in the frame I never noticed before. Its right behind the IFS on the pass. side. So my day was pretty disappointing. Well it just so happens I have an '86 4runner body and frame sitting at my moms property that I was about to sell or cut up. Its my old DD that I stripped everything out of to build a couple different trucks. Now I'm throwing everything in the runner. I'll do all the same stuff, but to the 4runner now. They are both still IFS, so its not any more work. I don't want to start with a fucked up cab with a bent frame. If its going to be smashed, its because I smashed it. I will keep you all posted. I will have the 4runner down at my house by next week. I am now down to 1 Toyota 4x4. 2 months ago I had 6. I better make this one good...

Yeagley

Here are some pictures of the 4runner. Its pretty much a rolling frame and body with interior. I have a lot of work if I want to wheel this in a few months.

86bobbedtoy

sorry to hear that,
can you post some pics of the kink in the frame.
I have seen a few with the pass side of the frame rear of the last ifs weld

Yeagley

That is the exact spot. Right after the weld. I can take a picture tomorrow. Im not too bummed. I love my 4runner. I was excited to build the extra cab, but I like my removable top on the runner.

Oh it should go pretty quick. The 4runner needs a lot of love. I striped almost everything off it in the last few years.

NorCalToy

well that kinda sucks. 4runner are pretty sick though. either should make a fun rig to wheel.

Allright, I haven't been able to log on here for a few days. Over the weekend I cut up the turbo truck. I have a pile of good parts and a truck full of metal ready to go to the scrap yard. On monday I went up and put the steering box and column back in. I want to be able to steer it on the trailer and into my driveway. Im waiting for the rain to stop before I can pick it up. I think its snowing up at my moms. Right now im getting all the wiring ready.

The top will be off, so a removable pole might be in the works :eyebrow:

Yeagley

I cant wait to get the runner down here to start working on it. It rained all day here. I stripped down my rear housing and a new front housing I want to use.
