CAPITAL ONE - Credit Card
« on: Jan 03, 2008, 06:32:34 PM »
I'm planning to cancel my United Miles Card and am considering a Capital One card as its replacement.  Anybody have one?

I always carry two cards, a primary and a back up, and after my last round of travel with United Airlines I want more options.  Discover cards seem to be great, but they are not accepted everywhere and that "bugs" me.

I *think* the deal with discover is they charge more to retailers, so many won't accept.  Discover has been good to me.

Avoid mbna at all cost!  Do a google search on them (wish I had before getting their card) and you'll find that they get in trouble for shifty practices the most and have a horrible rep.  They're in cahoots, or owned by bank of america.

I've never dealt with capitol one, but have wondered about them myself.

Capital One is great I went with them way back in the 90's, don't use plastic much though it seems the quickest way to get into trouble.

I use a Flying J mastercard through Transportation Alliance Bank.

We try to use Flying J's as much as we can on our travels, they are very RV friendly with a couple pumps set up specifically for RV's and the propane right there at the pimps.

With the card I get discounts at the pump, discounts on propane and I earn 'Flying J Dollars' that can be used either in their restaurants or their online store.

Speaking of, we have been wanting to get a handheld CB. I probably have at least $35-40 in Flying J Dollars.
I'll have to look into that.

I have a handheld CB, they are great to have when you want to talk with the person you are spotting.

That's what I was thinking too, RS, especially since Mark never pays attention to the spotter's hand signals

Sometimes you know your vehicle better than your spotter, I listened to a Jeep owner once in my 4Runner the result was damage, he wasn't thinking about my wb compared to a Jeep. I was thinking "I don't like that line" as he directed me onto the boulder and when I dropped off, well you could imagine the rest of it.

Go for it!  I got one of there offers a couple years ago.  And I checked into it and I couldn't believe what they were offering, so I called a couple more time to double check!  It was a balance transfer offer that had no balance transfer fees, the first year was a 2.99% rate, and the next year was 1.99% rate for the life of the the transfer!  At this rate I'm not in a big hurry to pay it off!

I have their "No hassle miles" card. I like it because it allows me to pick the airline to redeem the miles on.  8)

How does the airline process go?  Is there a reward website or do they just recognize the purchase on the statement?  Can you purchase from Orbitz or Sidestep?

I don't have a balance to transfer, but the miles are tempting.  There is currently an offer for two miles per dollar spent that I should qualify for.

I believe (the wife handled the reservations) you go through Capital One. She checked the price vs. the discount offers and it was the same. No blackouts is also nice. :twocents:

Note the offer for two miles per also carries with it an annual fee. It is 1.25 miles per for a no fee card:

Capital one is good. I went to citicard they were 1.5% cheaper on the intrest rate. Got to shop it out. Chase wasn't bad either although they pisseed me off I closed the account then was offered another 0% APR for 12 months, 4 months later in the mail.
