:)

I know but they were free and only had 9,000 miles on them

Angler

I am going to Paint the body red and I want to do a red and white theme, I want to paint the body red and sliders white and I want to paint the suspension and steering, what kinda scheme should I do, IE red axles, white control arms and springs, things like that?

skipnrocks

You should do white truck and red runing gear!   If you mix every other part it might be interesting.

got my brackets in from ballistic fabs, got some more of the brakets grinded off the frame.....

Angler

Built the spring hanger today, finished grinding the IFS brackets off the frame, what a Pain in the ass that was, the more I use my grinder and cutting wheel the closer I get to buying a plasma cutter. I built the spring hanger much like the other one I built except I used .25 inch material all the way, 2x4x.25 and .25 plate for the brackets.

My welds

the hanger

tomorrow I am going to work on the front axle, going to strip it down, install the Aussie locker, rebuild the knuckles, weld the diff armor and truss on.

Angler

I havent done much work tothe rig I have been busy at work getting ready to deploy to Iraq in sept.
I got the aussie installed in the third member, I have the front axle completly torn down and all the brackets cut off it, I got the front springs hung, I hope to get the front axle finished up tomorrow, I will be gone to the firld the 8-20 march, I hope to have this project driveable by the middle of may.

Angler

Got alot done today I got all the goodies welded onto my axle housing, Diff armor, truss, knuckleball gussets, I got one spring pack built, my springs consist of top 3 leaves 86 rear, bottom 3 leaves out of an 84 front spring pack cut 1 1/2 insh shorter than the leaf above it to make a 6 leaf pack. I got my front springhanger fulley welded in ad the rear springhangers welded to the frame, I did not have frame jigs so I made spring mounts and welded them to the bottom of the frame, I am going to run a 4 inch shackle, heres the pics

this is the front axle how I got it, its from an 83

This is how the housing came out, I was still working on finishing up the gussets, it took me all day because I welded 1 inch at a time and let it cool down till i could touch it before welding again, I did not want to chance warping the housing

My home made knuckle gussets

housing looks sick!  good job....

I was curious about the weld on this mount...is there a gap there where the frame goes up on the right side??

also, what kind of mounts are those?

Angler

the gap is where the frame bends I had to weld the mout inline with the front hanger so it would not put the spring in a bind, the mount is the stock toyota mount I cut off the rear of the frame, I just beefed it up with some 1/8 inch plate. its the original mount the rear springs were mounted to. It looks better now that I cleaned it up, stupit flux core wire is so nasty, one of these days I will get a bottle so I can run solid core wire but the flux core has never broken and I have built 2 rigs with it...... :crossed:

DTB

maybe its just the camera angle....dunno...your welds look ok

cute kid by the way......she looks like she can turn a wrench with the best of em

Hang front axle
install Hi-steer
install shock hoops
Remove cab from parts truck, install on frame
reinstall tranny,xfer case
relocate fuel tank
relocate battery

armor, truss rear axle
pull third member, install rear Aussie locker
build rock sliders
rebuild rear brakes
bleed brakes
build flat bed
have tube bent for front bumper
build front bumper
build rear bumper
fix e brake
build spare tire mount
install custom bench seat
install sound system
install hand throttle

Will do, I got all the 4 link brackets tacked together yesterday and wil be final welding them today, I am impressed with the brackets Ballistic fabs makes, I had to do some fileing to final fit the brackets together but nothing extreme I will get some pics today

crawlerdan

i will be buying ballistic brackets as well :D

Angler

Got the trans and xfercase installed today, got the front springs bolted in, the front axle is almost assembled, it was pissing me off so I had to do other things while I messed with it, I made the mistake of taking it apart and then waiting about 6 weeks to put it back together so I had to rely on Internet wright ups to figure out how it went back together, I got it figured out eventually.
tomorrow gonna finish up on the front axle and bolt it to the springs, then gonna start addressing the 4 link rear

Jud

Damn you come across some deals! I wanna see how high your rear setup will be. I have a set of those same coils I want to do a 3link on the rear if my truck with.

I also did some horse tradeing and ended up with a set of 35X12.50-15 dunlap mudrovers with 90% tread so the Turdinator will be rideing a little higher when she finally hits the road.

Angler

Got the knuckles rebuilt, and hung the axle, hooked up Hi steer, I am going to have to move the steering box forward a few inch's to prevent the tie rod and drag link from coming into contact during articulation, I am happy with the shackle angle, I got a set of the porta=torches from Home depot and had them filled, they helped speed up the process of removing the useless brackets from the frame. got all but 2 of the 4 link brackets finel welded, now that the front axle is in I can put some tires on it and start getting my measurments for the 4-link.

Axle, all new seals, repacked bearings, installed aussie locker

I droped one of my hubs and it broke, I had to go to the junkyard and get a new one, they sold me a set off of an 82 for 25.00

x2...shackle angle looks good....but man thats a lot of grease in there! I usually pack mine 1/2 to 2/3 full...less mess on the trail when you break or have to fix something

i never rebuilt a toyota axle before, the fsm said to fill all voids, hopefully next time i pack them it will be when i install my longfields

Angler

I got all frame totally cleaned up, got all the brackets cleaned up off the rear axle, I dropped the front axle and re drilled the spring perches 1 inch back IOT move the front axle 1 inch forward, this will minimise the finder trimming and also make the steering work better, Eric helped me pick up the parts truck today and we dropped it at Kevin's, I am going to try to get the rear susp  done and haul the frame to Kevin's on Sat for the cab swap.

Angler

I got the front tires on the rig today, I got the ride height figured out,  I got all my measurements for my links, I have to cut the links, it looks mean sitting on the 35's I need to get a pic, tomorrow going to tack all the mounts in place, build the links and cycle the suspension to check for binding.

Angler

Got the 4 link mocked up and tacked in place, had a lot of help today from Eric and James, we threw some small tires on and flexed it as much as we could with a floor jack, no binding and it really flexes nice in the rear, I am pretty happy with the results.

The links

Eric finishing up a little welding on one of the brackets

All tacked into place, the truss will be finished tomorrow

Side veiw

Still have a long way to go, but this is a major milestone in my build, thanks to the guys helping me out today.
