Same welder I use. I like the way it works with solid and the flux core wire. Even though some people say not to use a 110v welder on supension parts I've had no problems.

X's 2    I built my jeep with the same welder and have beat the living piss out of it and never had a weld break. Knock on wood, that welder is the best 420.00 I spent in a long time

I went to the local Hose maker and got me some 28inch brake lines made cost me $45.00, I installed them and got the brakes bleed, I think the front calipers had some air in them because I now have allot more brake pedal now. with the lift and moving the axle forward I only had about 3 inchs of slip in my driveshaft so I went down to the steel place and got some 2x2 .25 wall tube and some 2.5X2.5 .25 wall tube and built me a square driveshaft for the front. I got it up to 45mph before I got any driveline vibs from the DS which is suprising. I took the TuRD out and drove over some snow banks, It did great. Next project is building some shock hoops so I can mount my shocks on the front and then the front end will be done.

I spent 200.00 on the TuRD today, I am trying to keep this build on the cheap but figured this was a pretty good deal

I bought this 86 5 speed 4runner it did not run from a kid who ran it into a pole last weekend, he said it ran fine till he hit the pole and then it would not start, he told me I could haul off the whole thing for 200 and he gave me a clean title. I figured if I just got the IFS steering box and spare third member I would be ahead of the game, I pulled it home and rolled it into the garage and started looking at it, when he hit the pole it knocked the fender in on the drivers side and crushed the wires leading to the coil, so I got my pry bar and a BFH and pried it out and beat the snot out of the fender and repaired the wire and got in and turned the key and she fired right up and started purring like a kitten, I took it around the block and the motor has much more balls than my 84 22r with over 300k on it.shifts smooth and goes in and out of 4 wheel drive good, has locking hubs they work fine,
it even drives straight down the road. the body is shot and the little chithead had got mad when he wrecked it and knocked out most of the windows but the power train seems strong. I figure on swapping the 22re into my truck what other parts should I use off this runner on my 84PU
I am not going to run duel transfer cases I will be good with just one with 4.7 gears for the terrain around here, no rocks just mostly forestry trails and mud, and sno.

Holy :pokinit: man!! You are the king of finding sweet deals.  :jawdrop:

If i was you, I would keep the tranny and tcase anyway, rear driveline, rear axle, any interior parts you may want to use down the road, IFS hubs, doors if they are good, maybe the seats are nicer i dunno. There are a lot of good parts on that thing. Lots of little stuff that is worth having extras. Lots of good spare parts on that thing.

I started messing with the runner today, pulled the doors off, got it up on jack stands pulled the tires off, I rolled under on the creaper to start unbolting the drive train and what do I see? a beautiful rust /damage free frame, so..... with the TuRDs frame having more than a few rust holes in it that I was going to repair and completely covered in surface rust a new plan has spawned.........Project FrankenTuRD, build will consist of removing the runner body, putting the PU cab and front clip on, doing sas with the TuRD front axle.  :wink2: all this and I am still trying to keep it on the cheap, the org runner motor, xmission, xfercase, and rear axle will be used. I know with taking on this big project I will have to pony up more cash than I wanted but it will be cool when its done, My jeep is close to selling and some of the money will be used to buy some of the expensive stuff like the high steer kit, and wheel spacers, but all the brackets and new body mounts I will build, I already have the front springs, extended brakelines, front ds, and spring hanger I can take off the TuRD gonna get the runner frame all prepped up and ready in my garage so when its time to swap everything hopefully I can get it done in less than a week so I get my DD back, luckley I only live 3 miles from work and have 22 guys in my platoon I can bum rides off till its complete.

Well kinda of a sad day yesterday, I watched as my Jeep that I built from stock was loaded up on someone else's trailer and disappeared into the Ice fog never to be wheeled by me again. But the cash in my wallet was burning a hole in it so I got online and ordered,
Brackets, Jonny Joints, bungs, jam nuts for 4 link from Ballistic Fab, Hi Steer kit, knuckle rebuild kit, 1.5 inch wheel spacers, front axle truss, diff armor f&R, Aussie lockers, timing chain kit, rock lights, and 4.7 xfer case gears.

tomorrow, going to pull 4runnerr in garage and finish removing body, then going to strip down to bare frame, remove all factory susp brackets, clean up rear axle, I bought a complete front axle from an 83 to use on the 4runner frame. no telling how long till all my parts arrive, being I am in Alaska it cost a fortune to ship anything up here so most of my stuff they are going to ship in USPS flat rate boxes. I was trying to keep this low budget but the wife said I could only have one rig so the Toyota won over the Jeep,My goal is to have a dependable daily driver that I can drive to the trail, wheel all day and drive home comfortably. I will be sticking with 33's and running a single xfercase, I want to keep the COG low and have really good flex, I will be building quick disco sway bars, because I removed my sway bars and track bars from my jeep and it gave an edge off road but made it suck on the road and led to its demise, I had a trailer for my jeep but hated having to load it up and unload it then trying to find some place to park the expedition and trailer while I wheeled and then worrying if someone is breaking into my :pokinit: while I was on the trail, it just got to be a royal pain in the arse and I fond myself not going on as many ride because of all the hassle it took to go, so this time I am focusing on a duel purpose rig. I am ordering Longs and CM rear axle shafts after I progress in the build, they are probably over kill for the 33's but knowing I gotta drive the rig home from the trail they will make me sleep better. I am going to pull the motor and replace the head gasket, timing set, water pump, and oil pump for the simple fact its out of the truck already and I don't know anything about the motor, except the odometer has 160,000 miles on it. motor feels real strong and does not smoke at all, also while I got the drive train out I am going to go ahead and replace the clutch, pressure plate, and t/o bearings. I will post pics tomorrow

After a long and fruitless search I could not find a extended cab up here in Alaska that someone did not want a mint for so I am switching gears back to the original plan to build the truck on the frame its on, i am going to have to do some repair but in the long run it will be easier and less time consuming being I leave for Iraq in a few months I want to get in as much wheeling before i go as possible, Updates as follows, I built the new shock mounts and got the Rubicon express shocks mounted, had to change the water pump and changed the thermostat while I was at it, got the Aussie locker, and knuckle rebuild kit in the mail, still waiting on the diff armor, axle truss, and longs to show up so I can build my front axle, I got the flex joints but the brackets have not shown up yet for the 4 link rear. so while I am waiting on all that I am going snow wheeling tomorrow, and Monday I will be pulling the 22re out of the 4runner, and getting it prepped for the motor swap. I will post some wheeling pics tomorrow.

I have a Axle out of an 83 that I am going to build, I have front diff armor, axle truss, high steer, aussie, knuckle rebuild kt that are going into it, once its all built it will go under the truck and the current axle will be used as spare parts, Going to carry a complete set of shafts with me till I can afford Longfields

I had to set down and figure what direction I wanted to go with this build, I have had alot of plans and kept going back and forth on what I wanted to do go I cant get past the rotten frame on my 84, so the final answer is to build the 86 frame, I got alot of work done over thee weekend, I pulled in the runner, I got the rear springs, rear axle, fuel tank, trans and transfer case removed, I then cut out the IFS, took me about 8 hours to do it all. I still have to go under and clean all the mounts off the  frame from the IFS and the Rear Spring hangers. I am going to build the spring hanger and hang the front axle this weekend, so I can get my measurements for my 4 link rear.
Go away stupid IFS

Go away rear leaf springs

Hello new toys

I am still waiting on my 30 spline longs and all my 4 link brackets from ballistic fabs to arrive.
