Are you talking 83-84 celica, or pre 88 truck vs. 89 newer truck?

From the looks of the bend I would guess that it was put there when Toyota went from the 2nd gen. truck to the 3rd. Looks like a clearance issue is the reason for the bend. Maybe when they redesigned the truck they may have either accommodated for the EFI or they may have had to put a bend in it to accommodated for a sleeker hoodline.  :dunno:

Have someone with a second gen take a look and see if it has the bend and also have someone with a 3rd gen look at theirs and report back the results to you.

But what's to keep you from loosely bolting either of them up to see if you'll have any clearance issues or issues with connecting vacuum lines?  :dunno:  I would say try hooking the one up with more vac lines and if you don't need all of them just cap off the ones you don't use  :yesnod:.  Then if there is a clearance issue try the other one.  The manifold can be swapped in just minutes and you have the luxury of possessing both manifolds just to try and fit one of them.  Then you can be the man with the knowledge to answer this same question in the future  :grad:   :beerchug:  Good luck!  :crossed:

i know some of this already the bent one came of of the 1st gen of efi and i know the not bent one came off of the second batch but i believe they both can be found in the 1st gen runners the style that came out of my truck was the bent one i was  just kind of wondering about the differences in the vacuum lines.  :beerchug:

Depending on if what I'm thinking is true it may or may not be an issue depending on what years had the bend, what years didn't and weather or not your year needed the bend or not. My guess would be if the bend is there for clearance issues you may not get your hood shut unless you have a bodylift or modify the hood.

just count how many vacuum lines u have going to ur intake already then match it up with the correct one or just like stated above loosely bolt them up and see which one fits. but i have heard about some of the non bent ones having clearance issues on earlier models.

BTW

Not only is the upper intake different (bend) the LOWER intake is different as well (there are bosses used to hand the AS valve etc that are added/missing on the intakes.

yeah yeah - still IFS...

I saw something about this on TTORA, they were saying the newer one is a performance gain from the older one. I don't believe it is but have no proof, as far as the lower part goes I run one with the older style upper and it has the bosses for the air valve. The newer one does provide a straighter shot and may improve  throttle responce and driveability.

I dont have my truck for reference - but that pic looks like a newer style upper...

As I said - the upper and lower are different - so its not that simple to mix and match - esp if you are connecting all the OEM emissions stuff
yeah yeah - still IFS...
