Leak since installing dual cases
« on: Nov 25, 2007, 08:50:44 PM »
Not a HUGE leak, but leaves a pretty good sized spot in the driveway overnight.

It appears to be coming from the transmission, as the transfer case usually checks full.

The transmission, adapters, and transfer cases were all purchased used, appeared to be in excellent condition. The setup DOES make some gear noise, almost like it's talking to you.

I have the old transmission, but REALLY don't want to go through pulling the tranny again!

Just wondering what the usual causes are, and how severe the problem might be.

The three most common leaks are.....1) It's leaking from the between the front of the tranny and the engine then it's probably the front tranny seal. Could also be a rear main seal on the engine. 2) It's leaking from between the tranny and t-case (or between any of the t-case sections) then it's probably a bad or no gasket. Either way you'll need to pull part or all of it back off to fix it. 3) It's leaking from the drain plug. Just need a new plug washer gasket.

If it's hard to tell where the leak is full coming from then clean it all up and then drive it for a while and check for leaks as it sits.

you might of over filled your tranny and t-cases. i had the same problems when i first did my duals. it's spewing from your t-case breather holes on top. now i put 2 3/4 quarts in rear case and one in the crawl box and no more leaks.
