Dual T-Case Leak
« on: Apr 06, 2009, 01:23:12 PM »
So my duals leak when the engine is shut off and it is hot. The crawl box is fine and between the crawl box and the complete transfer case is good but it leaks pretty bad from the back looks like it is high up but I cant really tell. I cant figure out why it leaks worse when I stop and let everything cool down. Any Ideas. I was thinking about some leak stop or cleaning the whole thing off and spreading some silicone on the seams.

Are you running the FROR xmember?

Does it look like it's getting slung out around the output flange?

Marlin sells a new transfer case output seal I'll be trying next.  Also discovered it doesn't leak so much when it's not as full.  :O

When you are looking for a leak, I always start at the top.

Check the shifter base and rear seal.
The new Heavy Duty output seal that I invented does work, and has stopped all the rear output flange leaks.

Always check the gear oil lever at the rear fill plug. I see a lot of transmission output seals letting gear oil leak into the Marlin box and then get pumped out the rear shifter. This is the main reason that I invented a seal with an outer flange so the seal cannot be installed backwards or crooked.

Remember to check the transmission oil as well.

Ok I will check the t-case and trans level, the output looks fine it is defenently higher up. I used silicone on the shifter base but that very well might be the probelm still. Thanks Guys.

The way I filled my trans up was pulled the top plug and filled thru the top shifter till it flowed out the top plug correct?

I have a terrible habit of overfilling center case, it leaks through the top at the stick, just after driving (cause the sling is more then designed, I suppose) :smack:

So I finally got around to checking this out and I pulled the fill plug on the t-case and got about 2 and a half maybee more extra quarts out. :hammerhead: I checked the trans and it seemed to be right where it should be where I could feel it with my finger in the fill hole. SO I am thinking I must have over filled the t-case. I filled it through the shifter but I put the plug in as soon as it came out the fill hole i guess I should have let it level out for a minute first especially since it was pointed down hill. So hopefully I found my problem. Thanks Marlin.    :turtle:
