So my sisters truck took a dive yesterday.

I accidently left the offroad lights on when i parked it the other morning atfer gettin coffee.
and about 2pm i went out to go meet my friend to have lunch, all that happened.. was the computer would click
so i hooked it up to the dads 4Runner to jump it... got it to run..the gauges stopped working period.. took the cables off and it idled at like 200rpms and died...
and then all that would happen was the clicking.

after determining the battery was completely drained.
i thought the battery was a goner.
so i hooked up a charger overnight and this morning i fired it up to amazment the battery juiced up.
but now....

NONE OF THE GAUGES WORK!
i checked my fuses under the dash.. and all are good.

any help?

you fried a fusible link
start at the battery and work your way into the harness

After you figure out what happened and fix everything, get a new battery. That one will not hold a full charge anymore! I've seen it a thousand times. Including my batteries!

i found a melted wire and a broken fuse.

i only only run my regular lights when i need them now.... and now fog or offroad lights or stereo... hopefully it holds for 2 more weeks.. and ill buy a cell battery.

Just don't buy one of the orbitals! I've had a very high percentage of them fail very quickly. They fair very poorly when drained fairly low.

for the lights and stuff, put a heavy relay on the fender NEXT to the battery, run a switch to the dash for that relay, then run your heavy draw stuff from that

yeah?
will that relay pop before the battery is dead? or will it pop before dash fuse pops?

and what kind of relay?

no problem, when nate mentioned them, i recalled seeing them at my local schucks.
and for the same price, id just buy a red top optima.

Guess I must have got one of the good ones, I have one in my Dodge Dakota since 1999 and it's still going strong.

well the point would be to protect your wiring in your stock harness, like fusible links that would keep your truck from starting

i used a starter relay from a old ford truck

would a big inline fuse work too?

or would a relay fail, keeping the battery from being drained beyond the starting capability..
cause thats what id like... something that will pop before the batterys dead.

I guess you should check out the spec's on both, all I know is they are both spiral cells.

i think sears sells a battery like what you are looking for, it has a reset sort of thing

a fuse or relay wont do what you are thinking

they just protect your wiring from burning your truck down
