Wheeling trip of a lifetime
« on: Oct 31, 2007, 10:54:21 AM »
I am going on deployment in January and should be back in August.  That being said I am starting think about a serious road trip to all the spots I have been wanting to wheel when I return.  It is a long way in the future but early planning is alot better than late.  I am thinking something like from socal to Las Cruces NM from there to my hometown of Farmington NM from Farmington to Moab, Moab to Pheonix then conclude the trip at johnson valley.  I know there will be much coordination needed for a trip like this so I guess what I'm trying to say is who would be interesed?

Does sound fun!  :beerchug:  The time frame for such a trip would be important to know so everyone could plan time off from work and such.  :yesnod:   I would be interested in doing this If I knew what kinda time to take off and how much it might cost too... :gap:  Let's keep this going and hopefully something will come together...Great Idea!  :clap2:

I am supposed to be getting back in the states in august so a little prep time and should be ready by sept. may be better to plan for Some time in october just to be safe. I will figure up mileage and a rough draft of how long to stay in each spot.  But like I said Im flexible if anyone else has any ideas on where to go and the order of going I was just throwing out what I thought to sound like a good idea. As for how expensive other than fuel and the suspected breakage of your rig I think we could make it as cheap as possible or as crazy depends on what you like to eat and where you like to sleep.

Just got on mapquest and this is what I have:
(I went from Bonsall because thats where im at so take into consideration depending on your location)

Bonsall-Las Cruces        706 miles
Las Cruces-Farmington  405 miles
Farmington-Moab          183 miles
Moab-Phoenix               468 miles
Phoenix-Johnson Valley  306 miles
Johnson Valley-Bonsall   127 miles

so total from Bonsall would be roughly 2195!  Thats some serious gas money!

I think that goes for anywhere you go, Infernal :yupyup:

That does sound like a wild trip. That's almost as much traveling as we do getting from FL to CA and without the wheeling :yikes;

If it is to much driving we could always cut off las cruces.  I really want to take a group to Farmington I grew up there and have alot of spots that I could take us to mostly spots never ran before.  As for fuel I have and 84 chev with 4.56's a 454 and no overdrive so I definitly feel the pain at the pump when pulling the yota

Its a class of people you will not find anywhere else.  Good old oilfield trash.  Where else will you see a family live in a 1982 trailer house with broken steps but have a nice shop a 07 diesel out front a boat, a harley, numerous 4 wheelers and dirt bikes along with every vehichle they have owned in thier life parked around the property?  Man I'm getting homesick just talking about it.  Did you go to the sky ute casino in ignacio or sun ray between farmington and bloomfield?  Almost forgot sitting around outside drinking your face off talking about the good old glory days.

Been to "shitrock" to many times to count pretty nice place huh? :puke:  Alot of people that go to that area to wheel just stick to the rock garden and chokecherry.  Those are the 2 well known areas but if you go north towards colorado north of aztec about 7 miles there is some kick ass wheeling that rarely and some spots never get wheeled.

 :rofl: Dude I saw so many of those it was crazy.Beat up trailer homes with room additions made out of Pallets and tables with sheetmetal roofs and tires and rocks holding them down.Brand new Duramax Diesel sitting up front with a couple of newer quads and like you said, every vehicle they've ever owned scattered around their property.Tripped out when I saw all the Super Duties and Duramaxes around town with the little orange flags.
