I am bored, and funny stuff happens when I am bored. I was about to rip all that stuff off of my muffler, but I want people to see it at school. Does that heatshield thing that is over the muffler really do anything? One of the bolts broke off when I was tightening it up. Can I just remove it? I want to cover what is left of my tailpipe with some flexy exhaust stuff, but I don't know how expensive it is. I might run over to the parts store and check it out. I don't want to put to much money into this old crappy stuff, so whatever. We'll see what happens.

I added more; Since the bottom of the tailpipe from the muffler back was gone, I went and bought some universal 1.75 inch flexy tail pipe to slide over it. The pipe was also coming out of the back of the muffler, so I bail wired it back to the muffler hanger. You will see. I hope the pics turn out alright; it is nighttime right now.

Total for this whole project: A little less than $15
Most expensive thing: GAS :bling:
Least expensive thing: Bailing wire and can.

overall pic:

Pic of previously installed custom hanger:

Hanger to muffler:

This is where the tailpipe is kind of broken off of the muffler:

Pics of holder from pipe to muffler hanger, I made a loop at the top of the "S" went around the hanger, then made another loop down by the muffler. I then spun the two wire parts together.

I guess I will call that a good days work.

Thank you, thank you! I have been needing to practice my "trailer park fab" skillz. Now most of my exhaust comes out of the back of my tailpipe!

 You guys make me laugh!  I was going to go apply for Fontucky Fab, but the job is too far away. If I commute for that long, I will probably die from the exhaust gases. Plus the benifits were not as good as I was looking for. I don't want apply for a job that leaves a question mark under the title of dental plan.

What? No! I ordered the header and test pipe. I will drive it down to muffler shop. Have them bend up mandrel tube from testpipe back using magnaflow xl muffler. If I used flex tube with my new stuff I would laugh at myself and hit myself upside the head. :smack:

Edit: correct, my $15 experiment is over, and it worked well enough for now. I might keep the flex tube and such as a souvenir. I might hang it on the garage wall to remind me of the fun times I had learning and utilizing my super redneck fab skillz.

I went with the LCE header too.  Really happy with it.  As for the muffler, looks like your set on the magnaflow.  I am running the flowmaster 40 series delta flow, and I like it alot.  I dont have experience with the magnaflow, but I heard they are quieter than the flowmaster.  I like the flowmaster because you could probably drive your truck on top of it.  Yes they are spot welded on the inside...but they are solid and can take the abuse.  I went through the same dilema, what muffler to use.  Its really just personal preference.  Just stay away from the glasspacks, they sound horrible an a 4 banger IMO.

I completely agree. They sound absolutely horrible on 4 cyl. engines. My friend has a cherrybomb on his 92 with stock manifold, and holy crap! It is loud and sounds like :pokinit:

I hope mine sounds nice and somewhat quiet. I bet the thorley and LCE headers aren't that different performance wise for our application. Now if we were racing then yes, it would make a difference, maybe. I bet mine will sound very similar to yours when done. Ok, bedtime.

I found a video of a carbed 22r with a magnaflow and a header... it sounds pretty decent!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1A1HIQLIW0
Also, my super awesome/ghetto exhaust fix failed monday morning (two days after performing the fix), so I took a few more cans and bail wired them on. It turns out that toyota mufflers get very hot, and it burnt that wrap stuff and proceded to blow through the tube that was used to cover the hole. Boy did it smell terrible! :reg:

pics, no repair pics, because I am lazy:

sounds a little like mine at idle, but mine doesnt have that ricey sound when you rev it up.  Its more of a deep growl.  BTW  that is one clean engine.

ps sorry to here about your gasket. This whole process has been wonderful. I have yet to have a problem with LCE. It did take a bit longer than I had hoped to ship, but that is about it.
