i ve got codes.........5,6,12
« on: Oct 10, 2007, 05:32:30 PM »
today i was on my way to Santa maria to meet up with my wife for a doc appt. while i was on the free way climbing a hill in 4th my truck bogged a little and i stared smelling coolant bad. my back window was down and grey smoke was pouring in through the back. check engine came on so i exited and headed back home. i thought i blew a head gasket :censored: when i got home i shut it off and popped the hood. coolant every where. i guess my rad cap blew for some reason, the truck wasn't even that hot?? i connected the diagnostic connector and now I am reading codes 5,6,12.
5) o2 sensor, lean or rich. i think it is because i am running a LC header and with the LC headers you have to cut the o2 wire and stretch it out. a mechanic friend of mine told me that this can be a problem?? i think i will just have a local exhaust shop put a bung on one of the tubes and run a new o2 off that.

6)(from Chilton rm) No engine revolution sensor (Ne) signal to ecu or Ne value being over 1000 rpm in spite of no Ne signal to EC- defective igniter circut or distributer;;; this i have never heard of nor do i know where to look............i need some HELP on this one

12) good ol knock sensor. i will replace it.

got another 85 runner. build coming soon!!

what do you mean the rad cap blew? it vented the cooling system or it blew off the radiator or what?

it is a good idea to move that O2 back up and get rid of the splice.  Make sure you solder it and the shield is OK.  Have you tries to start it since?

the cap vented at the top spraying the coolant all over the engine bay.  the cap has that spring in it. yeah sucky

yes i have started it since and it stared up and runs fine. well it has a little hiccup when holding it at idle.
iam going to see if i can get it to the muffler shop next week.
right now the o2 is not even soldered or shielded really.
the good part is the more problems i have with it the easier it is to talk my wife into giving me the funds to do a motor swap. iam not sure the motor. i want to test drive some 2.7 tacos. i hear the 2.7 is great but it just seems to me that a lifted truck needs at least a 6cyd at least where we live

Have you checked your plugs or your coolant to see what they look like?If it wasn't hot, and the cap vented, it sounds like a head gasket leaking combustion pressure into the cooling system.  I'd pressure check the cooling system, and check the cap.

First, do NOT move the O2 sensor. that is a "modifying" of smog equipment.

if a smog tect finds it he will not be able to smog the truck.
In caliy the O2 thingiy has to sample more than one cly.

ok, when you got the codes was the truck running?
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

with the lc header you have to move the o2 and it was moved when it was smogged. the header has a od reg# but i understand what you are saying. if they wanted to they could fail me od# or not. i want to move the o2 back to a stock location. then put in a new o2 maybe even a factory one. $$$$$$$$$$$$

no the motor was not running. only the acc

today i got a new rad cap. checked the oil again and checked the plugs. all looks good. i have a sound coming from the front of the engin that sounds like a dry pump or pulley. its a running squieking sound. not sure where its coming from. had a little bit of smoke coming from the engin some where but i couldnt tell where it was coming from? :dunno:
tomorrow iam going to do some test runs. i will also be going to the shop to put on my front bummper so maybe i will mess with it some more there.

Do you think that those codes may have been caused by coolant getting all over the sensors. What does an 02 sensor stretch mean? That dry pump sound is the sound of your timing chain eating your water jackets in the head. Fix that sound. Go to Engnbldr.com and get one of his Street RV/268 cam combo setups with a new oil pump, chain and tensioner for a whopping $650 bucks and carefully put it on your old R block. It will really wake up that motor of yours and will push all the tires you want.
I've got the most liftedest truck in town, that little jap truck done stand no chance gainst my Chevy. My Chevy gots a V8 more lift an bigger tires, and an exhaust system, whats yer tuna can got, a V4, and them tires look like they is offa Saturn Corulla. The dealer instulled my lift, so ya no its done right, you just try to foller me throo them rocks an see what a reel truck can do.
