I was just wondering, because the only tires Ive ever gotten were non name brand freebies or trade for work. Where do you get your tires like Super Swampers,BFGs, and other name brand ones?

A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

Really, All I have around here is Les Schwab. Does anybody buy from those ads in the magazines?

jimbo74

you can go online, but it usually ends up being the same price as local when you factor in balancing and shipping and mounting

i liek the freebies/trades, you can get good deals off of members here or craigslist or pirate or something

I have bought from www.TireRack.com before and they are great to deal with.  Like jimbo said, be sure to allow for shipping (easy to get a quote on the site)....  and of course you'll need to pay someone for mount & balance.  Worth considering if you buy new tires.   :yesnod:  There are other good online dealers; that's just the only one I've bought from so I can't comment on the others.

I like America's Tire, though that limits you to BFG and Bridgestone, pretty much.   Great service and I got them to price-match me MTs for Sears closeout price.($100 a tire - lol)

82rustbeast

I actually can mount and balance tires in Auto Shop, so just the price and shiping mainly for me.

bought my 37s from american tire. they usually will work pretty well with you on deals and will always beat another stores price. lilbuddy got his mtrs like 6 months before me at the same place and i went in there and told them that he got his for like high $800s or it was like $900 bucks. instead of me having to pay over a 1000, i paid like $920 or something like that. pretty cool.

i like Americas tire, they kick ass as far as customer service goes. my local one takes GREAT care of me they are very competitive for pricing. and they can get just about what ever tire you want. but if you want a really good deal keep an eye out on craigs list  :beerchug:

82rustbeast

   Wait, I think there is an America Tire Co in Chico 30 miles away. I should hit them up when I get new tires

norcalyoter

yup i think its on the skyway south end of town.

americas/discount is a good company, i used to work for them back in hs

also worked for wheel works --- some are ok, but they have a lot more shady stuff going on than americas (from waht i have heard though, have really cleaned up their act since bridgestone cracked down)

any good tire place can get any tire you want... usually if ou shop around locally you can get one place over the other to sell you tires cheaper than their cost jsut to get you as a customer

Yup, in fact their local stores are America's Tire, at least in this neck o' the woods....  I haven't bought online from Discount Tire, but I've bought a couple sets of tires from America's in Redding, and they price matched the BFGs on my Chevy without batting an eye.  It was a significant discount from their original quote.

When I purchased my 33 inch BFGs for my 85 Truck, including new wheels, I had the wheels on order at Discount and was working mandatory overtime.  I arranged for a day to leave work early and get the new wheels and tires.  When I called Discount to confirm they said that someone had purchased 5 of the 8 BFG KMs that they had in stock, but they could have more in the following day.  Waiting another day simply wouldn't work so I called Sears and got a quote for the tires which was about $135.  Discount offered me the tires for $119 ea if I could wait another day and when I asked about only getting three they said  $121 so I headed to Sears to get one tire.  During the install they noticed that the Sears tire wasn't a KM and didn't match the other three.  I called Sears and was quoted $165 for the KM, thankfully they had it in stock.  I let them know that I was very specific when I requested a quote and that we would discuss the price when I arrived to pick up the tire.  I was happy when I pulled up that they had the KM ready to go and the paperwork completed at the original quoted price.  Discount finished mounting the tires and I was set to go.  When I was going to replace the 33's to get 35's for the new 89 4Runner I noticed that a lug had ripped to the core.  Discount covered it under road hazard and credited me the current full retail price that was about $170 towards my 35's.  Essentially, they made it possible to get a full size spare for about $10.  Ironically, the Discount Tire price was a price match of the non-KM tires that seemed to much less expensive retail than the KM was plus the took an additional $10 per tire to beat the price at Sears.

They sold a friend of mine a set of used tires (driven from Florida to Washington only so about 3,000 miles) that were upgraded to low profile wheels and tires for about 50% of retail and gave him a full mileage warranty.  The tires were essentially new off of a factory new car.  They were also the exact tire he was looking for and since they were on backorder it was his only chance to get them.

In Texas my sister stopped in for a flat repair and they gave her a loaner tire to drive the car to the dealership to explore and warranty that she might have since the tire failed.  Her husband, who was out of the country, sent her back to get a full set of tires because they treated her so well compared to everywhere else.

Yeah, America's/Discount did that with me, too.  They had a 3-4 day wait for the tires from BFG for some reason and shipping errors(Fed EX's fault, not theirs), but they finally came.  In the meantime, they gave me a loaner(cheapie LT tire) for my coming apart at the seams old tire.  Then gave me the loaner for free fr my wait/trouble.

So I got them to price-match and get a free spare out of it.  Still, it's a brand new AT spare, which beats the 20 year old original that it had ;)

Craigslist :usa:

:werd:  you can find some really good deals on there!  I've also purchased a set of decent bfg 35s w/wheels off ebay for like $402.  Decided the wheels were too nice, put them on ebay for $300 buy it now and sold them to a guy in the bay area.  Charged $65 for shipping and delivered them to the guy.

I've only bought 2 sets of tires new, the first being 30" cooper muds for $400 otd in early 94, others being hercules muds (same tires) several years ago for $400 otd, $100 less than america's tire wanted for mud kings.  I got both from smaller local shops, and the hercules came with a great warranty.  Unfortunately both hercules and cooper muds have gone WAY up in price in the last couple years and are in line with every other big tire manufacturer :shake:

The tires I'm running, came from Les Schwab when I worked there!  But I'm gonna check at my little local mom and pop tire shop here in town for tires for my truck!  Usually get a better deal than LS.  But for the wifes van, I buy from LS because that's the rig we take everywhere and where we live, LS stores are everywhere!

Another place to check is Costco, especially if your looking for BFG's.
