I just converterted my 86 4runner from auto to manual, problem now is that my H4WD gear doesnt work the H2 and L4WD work fine. Another problem is that my engine shakes really bad now, im thinkiing it has somehting to deal with the ideal speed of the engine going from auto to manual (Its an EFI BTW) any sugenstions to either of my problems?

Double check and see if you have the corrct flywheel for the year of engine if it came with manual trans.
Some idiots are too busy knowing it all, to ever learn anything...

Brandon

it shouldn't shake no matter what. Make sure it is firing on all cylinders (pull plugs and see what happens)

On a gear driven t-case, you must shift thur H4 to get to L4. What happens when you go into H4? Do you have a t/case twin stick? Which trans/t-case did you install? Were they a matched unit or just spare parts?

Changing from auto to stick shift will not cause a miss. Have you checked for vacume leaks, bad spark plug wires?

I have a stick in the tranny and one in the t-case, when i shift into H4 nothing happens its as if its in nuetral, but nuetral is right below that gear

L4 works and so does H2. This is what it looks like. Yeah its the Fly for that year tranny>

I am going to ask a very dumb question here & it is not meant to be negative. I am trying to cover all of the bases. You did put a pilot bearing in the block before you installed the tranny?

Yes, everything is as a manual should be the pilot the fly, the clutch disk and cover, the other beraring that goes in the bell and connects to the shifting fork.

Everyone has to start somewhere.  My first week working at a shop, I put lug nuts on backwards and crashed into a car in the parking lot (no damage though).   :smack:

does the t-case have to be in a gear in order for the tranny to work? I put the tranny in 1st gear and leave the t-case in N and she wont move, when i leave the t-case in H4 or any other t-case gear and put the tranny in gear she will move. Is this normal or should the tranny work even if the t-case is in N?

with the t-case in n you should not move. unless your on a hill or got someone pushing you. also dose your truck still shake if you are on paved roads and not logging roads or bumping up rocks LOL :hammer:

:headshake: someone tell me hes joking  :dunno:
dude,  it goes like this, engine + tranny + tcase
if tranny is in N you dont move  :smack:  if tcase is in N you dont move,  :dunno:  if engine is not running you dont move,   make sure the plug wires are on the right plugs, start engine,  put tranny in 1 put tcase in 2h for pavement or 4h and 4L for the dirt
