My buddy took his old 'Taco out to Pismo Beach all the time, jumping and playing around and you could see where the top of the bed had touched the back of the cab several times from soo much frame flex.  He had to go back and stitch up welds on either the front of the bed or the back of the cab, I can't remember.

the fab work looks good!

I was just curious why you would make the mount hanging off the back and not inside the bed?

Seems departure angle suffers... or no...hard to tell from the pics

Looks nice.  I'll keep watching this thread, it might inspire me to build one for my 4runner.  Bumpers with tire carriers are really expensive.  Seen some for $1500.

And BTW, the bed on my friends Tacoma is so beat up its silly.  Several contacts between bed and cab.  He also dropped his dirt bike off the ramp once and bent his tailgate like a taco.

your talking about how the gate is mounted right? i did it that way because i want to keep the tail gate. but that may change.

maybe the pics are deceiving, but does the tailgate still open?

yes the gate opens.  maybe your seeing where i tied the uprights into the latch to tie everything together better.

i can still change the lense with an angled screwdriver. but i can get the whole assy. out.

the tube protects it pretty well. .....so far
