Well after working on a few Toyotas it seems the bug has got me. So with the help of my good friend Shoyrtt I have gotten my hands on an 86 4runner complete with a rolled 86 pickup parts rig.

Patient

Victom

The intent is to do the typical Longs, Duals,5.29s, lockers, SAS.... I will also shorten the body to about the center of the wheel well and also the top as this is intended to be the family trail rig.

similar to this

The story about the runner is too long for this post but involves being stollen and recovered minus the engine and trans. Then the donor engine and trans being a carb model, which brings me to where I am now. I had most of the parts for an EFI swap and the previous owner also had some parts. Between the 2 piles of EFI parts I now have the runner running although with the CEL on all the time but I can get that worked out.

One of the biggest pains so far was getting fuel preasure. I put a 5 of new gas in the tank and put a jumper on the fuel pump test plug, No fuel. I cotinued to test different things till I traced good voltage to the Circuit Opening Relay. After the COR the voltage dropped to about 7 volts. I thought this was weird and the whole time I was working on it there was a weird sweet smell coming from somewhere. Similar to old gas but with a burnt smell with it. I never thought anything of it till I unplugged the wires right at the pump and tested for voltage, Good 12.7v, then plugged it back in and tested for voltage right at the pump. 7volts Oh crap the draw is in the pump. I started to remove the pump by pulling the vent line and lots of preasure and gas vapor came hissing out along with that same smell only really strong. I finished pulling the pump and when I grabbed it it was so hot I could  not hold it with a leather gloved hand. There was a short in the pump that was causing the pump to get so hot it was boiling the gas in the tank. Lucky it did not burn to the ground. The good news is an new pump and it fired and ran like it had been driven yesterday.

That enought for now more pics as I progress.

I also taught him how to put in 5min of hard work and then spend 15min staring and admiring what you have done...

Any pics of the "other" vehicle in the yard yet? ;) BTW: What size tires are you planning on running?

Yeah the rubber spacer on the bottom of the pump was melted like Nocho cheese. I got lucky on that one, I should have known as soon as I found the voltage drop what was happening.

If you want to run leafs you leave it and build a flat bed on it, which is what I will do at first. Then when I link it I will cut the frame off and tube the back and incorporate some storage in the tube work.

Been a bit distracted from the build this week due to another affliction.

 Now I have 2 boats.What am I gonna do with 2?

Wayne

Shoyrtt

The Izzy house = two boats and two Runners

The Shoyrtt house = one boat (that didn't see the water this year) and one Runner.

Keeping up with the Joneses is going to be tough. :ha_ha:

Looks good. Have a great time at the lake. 8)

Zukizzy did the bob on my Red 4Runner above but we certainly used pictures of Locktup's rig for inspiration.  :yesnod:

Its been a while since I had any time to work on the rig but I got a little done over the holidays. I finaly finished the EFI swap so I could start on the body work.

Here are a couple of pics of the progress, Lots of work left and it is only tacked together to help with figuring out where things are going to go.

Here it is with the top shortened and reglassed back together and the bed shortened and tacked in place.

here you can see some of the planned fender triming marks and how I am gong to raise the tail light to clear the new fender opening.

More of the same

The other side

That is all for today, I plan on having it finished for the KOH race. Not for racing but for playing and prerunning before and after the event.

Wow, that looks short!

KOH huh, wish I worked that fast.

For now I will leave the leafs and have a small flat bed for a spare and cooler like Shoyrtt's. It is still bone stock with a body lift (which will go away :flamer:) I just did the body stuff first cause I was watching cement dry, Literaly I had poured a footing for my jib crane and since it was so cold (  ::)So cold like in the 50s dont ya love so cal? :gap:) it took 8 hours to be able to finish. The intent here is to have a simple reliable family wagon which will seat 4 or 5 and have heat, air, and be cablable enough to run any of the hammer trails. I don't have to follow JRT or the benders but get to the top and hang out. I get most of the inspiration for this one from Jim (Shoyrtt) let me practice doing his rig, Troy from cal mini trucks, I love that family truckster and Locktup for the body triming idea.

More later
