Sputtering?
« on: May 01, 2004, 04:01:47 PM »
When I get on the gas really hard right at about 3500 rpms my truck starts sputtering. I was thinking the carbuerator or just a new fual filter? anyone else have some ideas? I guess it could be the truck has 200,000 miles and never been rebuilt ???. Thanks a lot guys. Oh, I have an 83 with the 22r in it. Stock carb, no mods.
Common sense just isn't that common anymore

Yep the first place to check is the fuel filter.  Do that then reply back what happened, cause that is a very likely suspect.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

if your  filter and plugs are ok,  its time to junk that carb and go weber,  when i got my celica  all it would do was spit and sputter,  i put a weber on it and bang, i thought i was driving a supra :flamer:well, not quite but it was a HUGE benefit

Could be a faulty EGR valve.
Unplug the small vacume hose at the valve, plug the hose and give it a test run.

Mine was sputtering really badly... After changing the coil, spark plugs & wires, o2 sensor, checking the injectors, and changing the fuel filter, we checked the fuel lines for pressure & found that the fuel pump was out.
