22re...not running right...

well as the title says....im new to the forum but not new to wheeling and not new to toyotas....but i need some help with this one.....its whippin my a@#  :hammerhead: :hammerhead: 

it will rev to 6000 rpm without missin but is shoots a cloud of black smoke like a cummins with a big set of injectors...then it gets better when it idles it misses and when you try and hold a certain rpm it misses like crazy...got good spark at all cylinders...brand new ngk plugs...compression test turned out good....guy i bought it from said it ran great then one cold winter day the thermostat stuck on him and it got hot then blew the radiator hose off...he had a friend run the code on it and it said the throttle position sensor was bad...he replaced it...still no fix...sold it to me and i cant figure it out...i have had several toyotas and been able to fix the motor problems but this has beat me....any input would help a lot thanks and sorry for postin as a newb to the forum but hey you gotta start somewhere right  :yesnod:

oh and i forgot to mention it is an 87 4runner sr5 fuel injected 5 speed if that helps any...thanks

Have you tried running it with the cold start injector unplugged? Sound like it is over fueling.

check your egr.  you'd be amazed how much problem it will give you if not working right.

I would look at having the injectors serviced, could be a leaking injector.

well i re-sealed the injectors and did a general tune-up which made it run great...thanks for the input i wheeled it all night friday night.....thanks again

did you narrow the problem down? i mean what did you replace, clean, or whatever? the info may help someone else.

first thing i did was pull the upper intake and saw that the injectors were very loose in the ports where they go...i went to the parts store and bought 4 injector rebuild kits...its basically all the seals for one injector put them on and put it all back together fired it up and i was running much better but had a fouled(sp?) plug so i put plugs wires cap and button on it and problem solved it runs great....hope that helps...
