hey everyone im going to be doing marlin lift kit and different size tires hopefully sometime soon, i have been contemplating to go with either 35's with 4 inch lift or 37's with 5 inch. the majority of people iv talked to say 37's with 5. but i want my rig to be as low as possible and have a probable height. i was hoping to get some advise from someone whose dealt with both situations and been to places like the con and hammers. i figure with lower height and smaller tires it will be more compact, solid, and be less tippy, but i wont have the easy ability to get over rocks. basically its driving me insane and if some people could post their personal experiences and advice id Greatly appreciate it.

Matt. :)

I run 36 inch IROKS with 4" springs and it works great.  Just need to trim a little.

comparatively how much of a different in flex do u think u would get if.. say u had marlins rig with a 5 inch lift instead of 4. the pros and cons are obvious but out of experience what do u guys think would be more suitable.

Marlin  runs the 4 inch  because its  easier to control,  flexes  virtually the same if not better,  because the 5 inch springs  need a lowered bumpstop

i dont remember seeing  any mods to Marlins bump stops  last time i saw him  :headscratch:

I second the no lift and cut the fenders/modify it like the Marlin one in that picture.

leorn

X3.  5" (including longer shackles) and 39 iroks here.  I'll be shortening the shackles to make it a little lower...  I have my front axle 3.5-4" forward.
I really like the tire size.  It works fine in both moab and the hammers.

A lower center of gravity will sidehill better and climb better.  It just depends on your tolerance for cutting sheet metal...

thanks a lot everyone still kinda sounds like a toss up, i was also told by a friend that i could go with the 5 inch lift and 37's but drop the bottom leaf making it more of a 4.5 inch lift and having more flex. would anyone also recommend this?

If you are going to run the hardtop on your Runner, go with 5" springs in the rear and 4" up front. :twocents: Here are two examples:

My Runner long ago on 35s with 4" Marlin springs all around (a little saggy)

And "Fearoftherunner" rig with 5" rears and 4"s up front

Thanks a lot for those pics shayrtt that helped tons, i had no information about rockin with 4in front and 5in rear that would definitely make sense though. does anyone know what tire companies make True 35in tires. and does anyone have ideas y some companies don't make their tires to said size? im also curious about gas tank clearance, i know if i were to go with a body lift i could mount my tank up higher but i don't want to put a body lift on, are there any after market tanks that bolt right in, just something to think about down the line.

I don't know if there is a "true" tire in any size. My 35 MTRs I believe are 34.5" or so. I just bought a set of 39.5 Iroks that measure out just under 39". So if you are looking are looking for the "true" 35" tire, look for a 36"

Gas tank lift.  :twocents: I think you best option is to run a fuel cell or a Ford truck/van tank between the frame rails where your spare tire would normally fit. There is a good thread on Pirate on the Ford mod. ;) http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=484247 Or if you bash the stock tank enough, it might not hold as much gas, but it stops being such an anchor after a while. :ha_ha:

haha thanks alot shoyrtt maybe ill just use the sledge technique, or maybe just "accidentally" get high centered on the tank and rock it back and forth a bit, but that probably pushin my luck a little to far, the cell in the back where the spare goes would be a great place but im curious how the weight would be with a full tank at that position plus that area always seems to get the most abuse. and ya about the tires, thats what i think im gonna go for, some 36inch iroks would be amazing

werty

I see a lot of rigs that have to much lift 4-5 inchs. If the front axle is moved 2-3 inchs forward and 2 inches of lift is added you can clear 35s with hardly any rub.  3 inches and some fender trimming you can clear 37s

I've got 5" of lift and I rub my worn out 33's (that only measure out to 31" tall) big time on the rear fenders on my 4Runner.  I do get quite a bit of rear flex but there's no way I could run anything taller without some major triming.
