I've got 5" of lift and I rub my worn out 33's (that only measure out to 31" tall) big time on the rear fenders on my 4Runner.  I do get quite a bit of rear flex but there's no way I could run anything taller without some major triming.

time to bust out the big hammer and a sawzaw or diegrinder.
got another 85 runner. build coming soon!!

also the 4" lift kit is more than 4" when you factor in the shackle and if you do a new front x member and when you move your spring hanger up it gets lower on the frame which also probably gives a little more lift

I have the 4's all the way around on my 4runner with 37 inch tires. The front rubs when fully flexed but a 10lb sledge fixed it pretty well (still rubs a bit though). It sits pretty level with the top on and the winch bumper in the front.
