sorry my idea didnt work, you did do a good job with the duct tape though.  Have you tried a different afm?  I'd say find someone else with a similar truck and start throwing parts at it till it runs

Hottrod81

Have you done a compression check?  I didn't read the 1st page, how about the cap, rotor, and coil?

do you have a way to test fuel pressure?
No.

God no! My compression wasn't good when it was recently rebuilt! #4 is about 25 low.

Dave:
I'm going to need your air box, air tube, CPU and my new spark plugs tomorrow. :yesnod:

Hottrod81

Possibly a bad injector?  I am just brainstorming.

its deff being starved of somthing.. backfire in the intake sounds like air.  maybe the flapper in AFM is getting stuck or just not moving ?  unbolt it off the air box and throttle up and watch what happens..

minisimp, crank the truck and have someone hold the accelerator down(so it chokes like you were showing). while it is stumble-running go to the tailpipe and see if you smell raw fuel.

if there is no raw fuel smell, i would say that the fuel filter is partially clogged(small amount getting through), or your fuel pump is going out.

wait, didn't you say you were in the mud just b4 this started? may have a significant amount of water in fuel.

It ain't worth doin' if you don't have to clean up afterwards!

Build it, break it, fix it, repeat until your wallet is empty.

AFM is good, meter tested, flap moves free and smoothe.

Lots of fuel smell, didn't go deep in watery mud, just surface mud.

Exhaust is clear all the way down the pipe.

It sounds like for some reason you're getting TOO much fuel... that's exactly what my Ford does when it's got TOO MUCH fuel... :dunno: :twocents:

the video really does sound as though you have no air filter in your box. If you do, is it clean? you say this happened all of a sudden? or has it just gotten gradually worse?

Have you pulled the spark plug wires one at a time while it's running to identify the cylinder that's misfiring?  Once you've ID'd the cylinder in question, does it have spark? Is the injector connector to that cylinder full of mud and crap from being in the mud? Is the injector getting the trigger voltage (12 volts) or did the injector just crap out? Maybe this could help... :dunno: Also keep in mind that one type of problem may cause black smoke and/or bad smell out the exhaust (ignition failure, good fuel), the other may cause no visible smoke or smell from lack of fuel (injector delivery issue, possible good ign).
If it turns out you have two dead cylinders you might suspect the resistor pack for the injectors on the fender (pass. side) or even the wiring from those resistors to the corresponding injectors. The wiring diagrams show these and I have repaired this wiring before. Ask Tallchevy, we had this problem on his.
I've even seen cracked spark plugs act this way. HHmmmm, quite possible for a hot ceramic insulator to crack (not necessarily broken in two) when it gets wet in the mud with cold water.
One way that is simple to check for secondary (spark plug) voltage leaks is to run the engine in the dark and just watch where the spark comes from or you can also lower the resistance on the outside of the cylinder by spraying water around suspect areas to see if it get worse.
Again, I hope something here could lead to your fix.  :beerchug:

So as we were working on it last night a wierd thing happened, it all of a sudden, with no help at all, started running normal! Unfortunately it did not continue running normal, but for a while it ran perfect. It seemed the hotter it got, the better it ran, but then once I test drove it, I was right back to the same old sputtering while on the throttle.

I'll be going to see Duffil tonight to pick up new plug wires and an air filter. Dave will be bringing the rest of what I need so far.

Just remembered, a while back mine was doing something close to what the second video is showing. Turned out one of my injector plugs was loose. It would idle fine but as  soon as I got on the gas it would spit and sputter like  yours is doing. I could also feather it up to high rpm's and it would be "ok", just had no power.  Just a thought.

If that don't work, I have a test ECU  from an 85 you can BARROW
Also have an AMF you can BARROW for test.

 There is also a ground wire that is bolted on where the upper and lower manifold halves meet. If it isn't connected or happens to be broken that could cause all kindsa cool  :pokinit: to happen. It sounds like an electrical problem for sure.  :yesnod: Hope you find it.  :crossed:
