I've started doing research on propane kits as well, gotpropane.com is the way to go for sure.

I'll be getting this kit................................ eventually..

KYOTA also has a nice write up on installation of Carey's kit!

You've also gotta calculate in cost for tank (s) and adapters for maybe a BBQ and or converting to those small bottles in an emergency.

I'd assume your looking at a good $1000

we have duel fuel on alot of areial lifts   gas or propane     i myself would like 2 see a duel fuel toy kit    can't be that hard with the right parts.

the only thing with propane is after a while you get oil build up in the propane manifold   and has 2 be cleaned.

He does have a dual fuel set up. I'm running his proprane kit on my yota, it's awesome, it's so simple. I would much rather run propane than have computer controled fuel injection. I want to say the kit cost around $800.00, if you ask me that's a bargain. It's really easy to install, and is mantinence free. I would recommend propain for anyone, even those guys that are running fuel injection. There are a lot of pros to propain. On average it's 107-110 octane, it doesn't go bad, it's very enviormentally friendly, it's about a dollar cheaper a gallon. Do I really need to say more. It runs at any angle. You can build a hybrid motor, the hybrid on propane is bitchen. If anyone has any questions give Carey a call.

just did this swap on my truck and love it, the only thing i am having trouble with is my throttle seems to be sticking but i dont think it has anything to do with the kit.  i just need to try and lube up the linkage and see if that works.  also instead of running the solenoid off of a keyed on source i ran it to a swith so if it is off then the truck wont start, flip the switch and it fires right up. also good for theft

just curious if it is a good idea to run the forklift tanks vertical. i have heard and read that they are to be used in the horizontal posistion, but i have also seen a few rigs doing it the other way, like the tin benders jambo f-toy. it is not going to cause a problem doing that way then that is what i am going to do so i can run two tanks and still have plenty of room.

It should not matter.   The reason  some are upright and some laying down  is just for fitability.

Say  if you have a choped bed or no bed  i would put it upright.   If i had tons of bed space i would put down.

Just not upsidedown.

well im tight on bedspace so that is why i ask, but i have a feeling that the tanks are supposed to be ran horizontally.  maybe i should just call cary

you can run the tanks either way.  if you run them laying down you need to make sure the hole in the handle points down and the safety valve points up.  the tube has about a 30 degree kick on the end of it to pick up the liquid on the bottom when it is layed flat.  if you don't watch that you will run out at half tank.

and on the usage it took me 8.5-9 gallons to run the con from loon to tahoe

toy4x4ota

so i shouldnt run into any problems with running them vertically?  is the pickup for the tank on the bottom?

ya you can run them upright.  the pickup tube goes all the way to the bottom it just has a kick at the end so that it can pick it up when its on its side

toy4x4ota

awesome thanks for the picture and the help, this is gonna save me bedspace

Is the cost of propane cheap enough to counter the cost of the kit?  and is it hard to find a source for refill, or do you just have to make sure you have enough for the trip?

snowshoebrue

propane here is like 1.25 cheaper than gas.  i usually have enough propane with me for the whole trip.  if i have to get it i can get it at the gas station, but it is like 40 cents cheaper to get it from the propane supplier

skipnrocks

huh, not bad, if I wasnt worried about availability since my rig is a dd then I might commit.... hows your economy compare?

I don't think you have to worry too much about availability.  Out here, a lot of gas stations have propane fill ups, as do uhaul rental places.  Most places that refill your BBQ tanks will refill your forklift tanks.  I know some places won't, due to liability for some reason, but most will.

Not the case back home, the older stations used to do propane, and so did uhaul but not anymore, you can get it from the gas company, but I dont know of any other places that do...  I wish I was lucky like you guys and had them all over...

Angler

Has anyone running propane had any experience with super cold temperatures affecting the propane? I am interested in running pane on my 84 but I am stationed in Fairbanks, AK and it is -40F as I type . I would like to know if anyone has any experience with this?

skipnrocks

I have a buddy running dual, propane/regular petrol here.  In the winter time he says they have to use the regular gas to get started and warm and then flip the switch...
