Relocate and intall double fuel filters
« on: Jul 31, 2007, 10:36:55 AM »
Hi crawlers! i got an 86 4Runner with the 22re i want to relocate my fuel filter from under the intake to some where on the wheel well, could i just unbolt it and place it above the passangers side wheel well or would i have to install some extra plumbing so the lines could reach the new location? Also i wanted to install an extra filter in series with the original one to clean up the fuel a little better has anyone tried this or would anyone recommend doing this in teh first place. Thanks agian for any input on the subject! Toyotas Rock!

You could put more than one filter on, but the first one will plug up first. I would just use a good filter and change it more often. Less of a headache.

:yesnod:  ditto.  Not only that but you're dealing with hard lines and would have to fab up all new hard lines.  Your absolute best bet would be to pull and clean the tank if you're that worried about filters clogging.  If you did that and replaced your filter with a good quality unit, preferably toyota, you'd be fine for a long time to come.  I'd also consider treating your tank when you have it out for cleaning.  The more thorough you are on preventetive maintenance the smoother things will work in the long run

Ok so no double filters, i never thought about if the first one clogged up then it wouldnt matter down from there, but i would still like to relocate it up on the wheel well. Would this be possible without extending the existing lines? Thanks again for ya'lls imput

I'm with them on this one, fuel's clean once it goes through the 1st filter, and if the 1st did get dirty to the point it no longer provided protection and clogged you'd need to replace it anyways for it to run properly.

...On my '91 I took the filter off the engine block and put it on the inner fender. The stock fuel lines were long enough to do it, no parts needed but a new filter and some screws or bolts. I'v been running it like this 5 years no problems....

The only way to run dual filters is to get two Y joints normally made from brass and connecting the filters parallel with each other if you know what I mean.
