help finding a cheap 5"-7" lift my 85 toy
« on: Jul 30, 2007, 08:24:35 AM »
i need a cheap 5-7In's of lift. I've looked at skyjacker but have heard some bad stuff about their rears. I've also looked at NWOR 6" kit. but if anybody has some pics of these systems on their truck and if you have any opinions i would really appreciate your input. I am also not a fan of lift blocks and body lifts.

First question: What size tires do you plan on running?
Second question: What kind of wheeling do you do?

get marlins springs..... marlins springs are sweet....

they dont offer a 7" but you can always get their 5, or 6 " springs and run longer shackles

stay away from the big lift manufacturers, their lift springs are usually hard and dont flex very well

i have seen broken nwor springs on ttora and heard how they have horrible customer service, i will never buy any springs from them

i would rather buy the springs from marlin or all-pro because theirs are tried and true

Don't go skyjacker!!!!!!    I inherited mine and they are so @#%$^&*$#@ stiff they rattle my teeth going down the road.    I just bought a pair of 4" lift rear wrangler springs from Dave's off road performance.   They are sweet....and they fit the front my 85 toy without moving any of the hangers.....great for those of us who are welding challenaged.  If you go to this web site you can see the articulation that you get.'.... huh well I am computer challenaged too.....davezoffroadperformance.com  click on new parts and go down to the springs.  they are 149.00 a pair  cost me 190.00 shipped to my door.

How much lift did you get out of them? what size tires are you running? cause i plan on running 35's and probably 37" MTR's in the future.

I would run 5inch marlin springs and after they settle they will give you plenty of clearence for the 37s but if you need more clearence than that youcan always install a sky manufacturing 1inch body lift

BigMike is running 4" with 37's right now. I don't see the need for 5" :twocents:

Do they flex well? How much lift did you get out of them?
the limiting factor for flex is usually spring length. To put longer springs on (more flex) you must relocate the spring hangars. the most lift you can get from stock spring length is usually about 3 inches. If you are wanting to run between 35-37 inch tires i would go with 4 inch longer than stock springs (like marlins)

Hey 95tr,  great articulation and 4"'S of lift!!!!  Go to davezoffroadperformance.com he has pics there.  I even called and talked to him....their backyear is the rubicon and they have been using these springs for years without any problems....the price is right and +++++ the fact that the hangers don't have to be moved....they blot right up........for us welding challenaged......I am running 35 GY MTR's but once these wear out will prbly switch to 37's I do not foresee any problems with clearance

Also I checked on the Marlin springs first and will probly go with the 4" Marlin's on the rear.  Will have to get someone to cut and weld new spring hangers then.    :flamer:
During my research on the springs I also checked on anlins...boy good......but expensive. :yikes:
If I remember right on the Marlin front springs the front hanger has to be moved either 1/2 inch or 1 1/2 inches forward........I just didn't think the cost of all that work was worth it when I could get almost the same with bolt on.....but......you have to make that decision for yourself.

hope this has helped   :twocents:........Good luck and keep it up right!!!!!!

I have marlins 5" springs on my '84 and used the stock hangers and they work great but now my hangers on the front are starting to break away after 2 years of abuse so I will be welding in a new hanger next weekend. Pricey yes but worth it for sure they have very little settleing and ride great.

So you just bolted the springs in? I thought they were longer than stock.

im pretty new at this rockcrawling stuff and im also trying to lift my 4runner with a sas kit  and was thinking about the cost. but i came to think about it , and i figured i might as well do it right or not do it at all. it'll be a while for me to get my sas kit and rear kit. but im currently working on my diffs and front axle and already spent  a grip of cash. but when im done with those. all i have to worry about is getting the lift, installing, driveshafts, and wheels and tires. im thinking about a 4'' front and 5'' rear from either marlin or allpro. with that much lift on my 4runner what size tires would i be able to run. and im also wondering if its possible to cut the rear fenders on my 93 4runner.
