New Feature: Related Topics, Project

After a LOT of hard work I have gotten the very popular VB style Related Topics to work on our forum. In a geeky way, I consider this one of my greatest scripting feats to date. I did not write the original script, but I had to do a lot of work to get it to work here and I was jumping up out of my chair once I got it to work.

1) At first glance it does seem to load threads a bit slower. This should be expected as it has to search other thread topics for related information.

2) I have noticed that not all of the returns are always relevant.

3) Unfortunately you may not disable it through your profile.

Other than that, I love this feature.

Dang...

If I open one at a time, then I get around:
Page created in 1.25 seconds with 20 queries.

But when I open up like 10 in a row like I normally do, I get around:
Page created in 19.062 seconds with 18 queries.


Crap. I wonder if there is a way to speed this up...........

Ok, I have removed the feature for now until I can learn how to speed it up considerably.

I know earlier in the day this site was way slow. I thought it was my DSL but now that you explain it  Felt like dial up

Ok guys, due to my PURE SCRIPTING GENIUS-NESS, I have enabled this Related Topics feature of which we speak of for this topic and this topic alone.

Just look at the bottom of this page for the related topics feature. This is the new feature I love, but need to make it quicker before I use it globally on the forum again.

See, right now it states the following "Related Topics" for me:

Marlin Crawler West Coast Roundup - RUBICON
Motorcycle Riders
Petition
diff between chit chat camp & off topic?
85 22re, fails Cali smog


Now the way this feature works is by the thread TOPIC.

So, I am going to add the word "Transfercase" to this topic and lets see what happens...

I put the word "Animal" into the topic of this thread, and lo-and-behold, the very first related topic below is the thread "Pets" !!! SA-WEET

Build didn't do much and neither does Project.


I know that the word needs to be 4 letters or larger, and also it considers all of the words in the topic. So "Feature" "Related" and "Topics" are definitely throwing it off

This would be a really cool feature when someone asks a question about some tech issues and it gives a bunch of related topics at the bottom.
